New blog entry up with Steve's pics and supposed other 'future' pics from another source.

Re: KookieB

We have access to Anna's account at the Dyson Trust. You can find the more detailed account about the person who found the first camera there...

And if you don't know the user/pass for the account, just go back a couple pages or so in this thread and you'll have all you need.

Re: MrToasty, et. al.

I'm assuming that if this is a normally functioning camera, then your spec wouldn't *really* work... If the lcd display is operating, than Steve or anyone taking a pic with it would see that the image was no different than what they were seeing with their own eyes. To then upload the image and then have the game switch photos on us as if nothing happened would be kind of lame...

The only way around this would be if they did modify the ROM so that on the designated date the lcd screen would function differently... Either 1) it wouldn't show what images were being taken, 2) it will superimpose the tachyon effect over what you were seeing... or 3) it will obscure the focus so that you couldn't really make out what you just took...

With any of those, we'd be prompted to email whatever we happened to take, and Enitech could analyze (re: change, manipulate, whatever) it as needed to continue...

New blog is pretty interesting, so these canon cameras from around 2000 are appearing, and 'apparently' someone else has a gardner device?

Crikey, big news day!

Huh? Shocked

Not to go all meta... but what kind of asset management is that?

(Didn't have much faith in the hive if they thought no one would find the Tokyo source images...).

Here's what I think happened: fellow semi-anonymous player Alex submitted the photos because they do look quite Enitech-y. PMs thought "hey, that looks kinda cool, let's post it up as a rumor."

Sadly, the photos were posted on BoingBoing back in May, which is why they seemed familiar. I don't really have a problem with the PMs using user-submitted content.

Or:
"Alex" might be a new IG character who "found" a camera in Tokyo much in the way we found ones in NYC and CA. The original camera did say that the 4 "pads" were for other cameras IN THE US... there may be (IG and not "real") other cameras in other countries, and these pics were showing the catastrophe isn't just limited to the US.

If this is the case, I guess I can "forgive" using public domain pictures that would be easy for us to track down... the problem to me is that we DON'T KNOW. We have no clear indication as to how we're to treat this information.

UGC can be great, just as long as it's an asset that the PMs control...

Otherwise it's rather confusing... (maybe I'm just upset because I jumped all into the craigslist ad they posted before things really got rolling. I and a few others here speculated that the ad was posted by an in-game character, but it turned out that it was an internet prank that has been making the circuit for a few years now... but by posting it on their game's blog, for a moment it seemed that the PMs intended the rumor to be part of the game...).

maybe I'll start a meta post on this topic, rather than continue ranting about it here....

Why would they need to use "public domain"--or what are more likely licensed pictures--assuming that the San Fran pics were generated in-house?

If they really appropriated the images for their own use, that sounds a bit lazy to me...

The problem though is that the device they have is based on technology they've researched. The 4 cameras are only 4 cameras - we know they don't take the same pictures the tachyon camera takes (we can obviously test that, and they look nothing like the tachyon camera). Their latest blog states they believe someone else has a similar device to theirs (the tachyon camera, not the PowerShots). That is, either they've got a mole who stole the plans and created one secretly, or someone else created a similar device after researching the same technology.

Another point I found while typing up the secure documents - the origin of Enitech is much like Zoltan's account of the package. The status document says that someone who located a device (along with a note to contact EniTech labs) approached the Dyson Trust for advice, asking about EniTech Labs which didn't yet officially exist (it was just a lab proposed by Frank Bentley at the time). They gave the device to Frank who said he'd never seen it before, to which the original person was surprised.

Anyhow, this person who found the device said it came with a note to contact EniTech Labs, exactly as Zoltan had described.

I guess it makes sense, if these 5 devices were located at various locations, and in theory they all had the same note (which makes me wonder why vpisteve's didn't have one). If Enitech only received the one, then the others would still exist - steve's got one, and zoltan got one, and we're waiting for the other 2. Enitech's just had a full year to research the one they'd already received.

So ultimately, these cameras aren't technically adding anything to the story, except completing the initial collection of hidden resistance packages.

Unless..there's something unique about each, and when combined and researched, may reveal a key plot ingredient. hm.

well the account was created today, the pics posted today...

one picture has tags - campbucca iraq marinecorps unclassified
the same picture has a description.
Two pictures have exif data for when the picture was taken (both 2005), the rest are today - obviously these pictures were nabbed from various sources and the exif data wasn't stripped, so date taken really has no bearing.
Nothing in the user's profile.

I assume you've initiated contact by now? Smile

OK, got a reply, but don't want to post it until I've verified they're not some player playing me.
