What the name Cloverfield "may" mean and/or come from
I searched for this and found something barely related but I just thought some of you all might like to hear this. This was something that a guy from 1-18-08news.com discovered. The name "Cloverfield", is a bit random! Wtf is it? Wtf does it mean? Well, this guy did his home work and this is what he found out!

For starters, there is no way to prove that this is in fact where the name comes from but IMO, it's a damn good stab at it!

If you break down the name "Yoshida", you get two japenese words. "Yoshi" and "Da". Yoshi means "luck" or "good luck charm"....aka 4 leaf "clover". A "da" is the name for a "field" of rice paddies.

There ya have it. Take it anyway you want, it wasn't my finding. Wish I could remember the dude's name.

Cloverfield is a street in Santa Monica where the offices of Bad Robot reside.

True, that is where they got the name for the movie.

But there is going to be some relation between the title 'Cloverfield' and the movie, otherwise they would have called it something else obviously.

I'm still holding out for Overnight Laughing . Seriously, I've always thought that "Cloverfield" was a working title and never intended to be the real name, but the idea of keeping the name secret for so long backfired and they ended up keeping the name to avoid mass confusion.

Revees pretty much says as much in one of his interviews:

It was actually the president, Rob Moore, from Paramount who - because we were talking about making this sort of mysterious, fun trailer to get people excited -- it was his idea to not put the title on it. We said, "Maybe we'll call it Cloverfield, maybe we won't. Who knows?" And then as we started making the movie, it was always Cloverfield to us. The thing that we didn't expect was that there was such a reaction to this trailer and people starting knowing the movie as that and as 1-18-08. It started getting its own sort of momentum. The title that we came up with that we really wanted to go with was another obscure title that had to do with another reference to the film. Once you saw the film, it had quick resonance and we loved the title and were getting very excited about calling it that. But by the time we got to this place, we'd also sort of fallen in love with calling it Cloverfield. We thought, what are we doing, taking the title from one word that people don't understand and find is mysterious to another word that people don't understand and find is mysterious. People already know it as the one word, so why would we do that? And by now we already had, in our heads, been calling it Cloverfield in a more permanent way because that's just what sort of happens over time. So we decided, okay, that's the name of the film. Let's not confuse people further. Let's let that be the title

Not neccisarrily. The name Yoshida may have been used because of its link to the movie title, not the other way around.

Frankly, I think they just chose cloverfield because most people were calling it that.

Actually it doesn't work if you pull apart the word because Yoshi and Da don't mean what you say they mean. Yoshi means "Good" and "Da" has various meanings, none of which are 'rice field'. "Ta" means 'rice field'.

The word "Yoshida" means "lucky/joyful rice field". The problem with this theory is that rice and clover are not the same. The reason it's a 'lucky rice field' is that it's bountiful.
