Once again Oil, did the face of the monster resemble a monkey or gorilla at all?

And was the monsters bent "elbows" above the monsters head?

don't believe it

you guys can believe what you want...but I just registered on this site to let it be known that this monster description is eerily similar to the monster in the movie called "the host." i see similarites in the structure, the red things puffing out of its head, and the little arms in the torso area. (Grant it, the size and the face don't match but no one would want to make it obvious.)

go look for yourself....its just my opinion. I won't believe anything till I see the movie for myself.

I own the Host and I will say it IS very similar in some respects. Not as big, for sure (the Host is about 10 feet tall, this thing is HUGE). The Host's creature has a more pronounced jaw, MGP does in fact look a bit like an Ape's jowelly face, but very much it's own beast and species.

As for the elbow bending, people really won't get why it's so hard to describe this thing till you see the film. When you see it from the ground point of view, you only get glimpses and teases. From these moments, it looks very much like the elbows are about head height. Think if you were to walk on your hands in a held push up. When you see the beast from above, you notice that it braces itself against things and looks almost like it walks on two legs at one point... but again, the camera moves away before you can really get a solid look.

For reference... this is THE HOST:

http://gallery.awn.com/data/514/TheHost.jpg

MGP doesn't look so "fishy" and his mouth doesn't open quite so wide (as to cover his face). MGP has a more human/ape style face shape and more pronounced jaw, like in that crude pencil scetch someone did in another thread last week.

Yea so what I was bored.....

I'm not saying you are wrong....the monster could very well be how you described it....I actually believed you at first to be honest, and that monster is pretty kick ass....however, I believed the other reviews at first, but they all turned out to be false.

I'm just a pessimistic person who won't believe anything else till 1/18/08.

Besides....why would J.J. abrams make a monster so similar to one that already exists?

Why would JJ make a Godzilla film? This monster is definitely unique. I loved the Host, and I can definitely see these two creatures as seperate. Never once did I think that "this looks like..." and I didn't make the connection to the Host until you brought it up. The Host is FAR more fishy looking, and the red "bags/gills" on MGP's head are far less noticeable until we get the clear direct shot of his head more towards the end.

Think the Kraken from Clash Of The Titans without the scales and webbing and with big black eyes instead of little beady ones.

This is the worlds stupidest question. But does it laugh at any time? Like in the exclusive clip I think.

I personally didn't think it laughed, I thought it was just asthmatic.

I notice you said it braces itself against things, could it be asthmatic and needed a breather.

I know all the answers are going to be no. But I just thought I would ask them.

As far as we can tell. They could very well be deep brown with a pupil, but all i saw was black... The production notes and Aint It Cool talked about the whole "scared horse eye" thing but I never saw that even though I was watching out for it. Granted, this movie has so much going on that i could have missed it.

?!? um....

No laughing... it spends most of its screen time roaring. As for the bracing up against things... think "fish out of water." It's probably never used it's legs on dry land before and is just trying to get around, grabbing on to what it can. The baby comparison in the production notes is fitting.

So, you think the monster monster head/face looks like the krakens(clash)....just get rid of the scales, and add more teeth?

http://www.creaturescape.com/monstermarket/geometricdesign/kraken_bust.jpg

Plus, does the monster top and bottom lip come forward off the face....or are they FLAT on the face?

Yeah okay, purhaps the Kraken is a bad example (sorry, it's been a while since I saw Clash). I was just trying to go with the jowel thing... more like an ape. As I said, the face is human "shaped" in certain respects. Someone drew a crude sketch last week and it was pretty right on. I'll see if I can dig it up.

It walks like a drunk basically. If so, I applaud him/her.it/for being able to withstand some shots from the army. I for one, can't walk in a straight line sober let alone drunk, so kudos to MGP.

Sorry gang, I just don't have time to dig for the pick, but I noticed the OP compared the face to being a human/bulldog type look... that is pretty spot on. It had fangs on it's lower jaw that come up like that.

Trust me, there is a really clear shot of its face that will arrive after tonight once someone has the balls to snap the pic. When the beast looks straight at Hud, it's the best face shot you'd ever want. Everything else is just too quick and brief to garnish detail. You only see it like 7-8 times... and even then you only get a quick flash at its head if that.
