Don't be so hard on all of this. The whole ARG for me has developed into something special that only I and all the other devotees know about. Everyone who sees this movie and who wasn't involved in all this will never know the enjoyment I had with this whole experience. The movie is the climax off all these events leading into it. The movie would be sorta cheesy if all was explained considering this is all coming out through a first person point of view. Who knows, maybe they're saving a good amount of this stuff for a sequel and believe me if this movie makes a ton of dough there will be a sequel.

im not mad that i followed all this ever since the day we all saw transformers. not even one bit. if none of the slusho/tag/tido/JT stuff is in the movie, then im ok. ill know why jamie is passed out drunk as fuck, ill know what rob is supposed to leaving to go do, ill know all that backstory, then when people ask me why such and such happens I will be able to tell them. plus, die hard fans will recognize my slusho shirt. that sort of connection is awesome. people dont come up to me and say "oh man, i cant beleive you have that halo 2 zanzibar shirt! man i loved that game!" but random people have come up to me and said "oh dude, i cant wait till my slusho shirt gets here! have you seen the new JT video??"

Eh, there were many theories about the monster being woken up by the drilling company, and that seems to be the most likely cause, it's not like we were going to find a diary written by the monster of what it got up to before it attacked NY.
The Chuaii vids are the payoff, as far as I'm concerned, but I do understand the frustration of the guys who have been here since the beginning, I think the Ethan Haas stuff must be the reason people feel let down and expecting hundreds of puzzles.

I hope you'll all enjoy the film!

p.s. I wrote this message at 1:06 PM, in my version of reality.
p.p.s. And I hope you all had fun, if not, what were you doing here? Smile

I have more faith in the review I found on aintitcool that what some nitwit has pieced together. No offence to those of you that believe what folks like LC have said, but I call bull on it.

I have followed this movie faithfully from the midnight of Transformers and was sucked in to it because this movie (as I have said before) comes out on my birthday. I have spent hours pouring through boards, lurking in the shadows of unfiction as a reader then finally joined in the late hours of the ARG/ARE/campaign, whatever.

As I sit here thinking about it, I don't care if the movie is awful. I was part of an experience with some of the smartest people I have ever come across. (Doesn't say much, but I live in the south.) You people have translated memos, videos and pieced together the scraps that JJ tossed us. Why say you give up now?

I'm now going to get off my soap box, but I have this to say. It's not the destination; it's the journey, and I'm glad I've traveled with ya'll these past 6 months.

<3,

A

ps. I think this was off-topic. Sorry.

I kinda look at this whole thing as an ARG-lite. We really only had 3 or 4 riddles to figure out, and each one led us to one of the viral sites.

1) The SLUSHO shirt in the teaser and 1-18 photos gave us the Slusho site
2) Another 1-18 photo led to a fake restaurant review, which in turn gave us Tagruato
3) The Myspace pages gave us Jamie (and Teddy), and the video site
4) The Tagruato "hack" led us to TIDOWave

ALL of which give us what amounts to the backstory you would normally get for a monster movie. It really wasn't about solving puzzles. It was more of a drawn out prequel story.

As for the dates, it does disappoint me that there seems to be a disconnect between the online prequel and the movie. Even so, it's not that hard to reconcile. Move the dates on the prequel in your head, and done. Or just ignore dates altogether. The story is still the same.

Leading up to May
Is it possible...

Is it possible the ARG will continue on until May? We now know the story of the aftermath, sortof. It will be like figuring it out after the fact. Using clues from the movie and ARG to follow to figure out the where/how/wtf. Just a thought. I would not be surprised to see more videos from Jamie that actually show where and what she was doing, thinking, etc. before the shit went down. If a DVD comes out...why not in May to correspond with game (which I think has already been discussed).

ARG UGH!!!

Well,

I am a little sorry the movie is not more interactive with all this time
spent on the 'net, but without the attention the movie got on the
'net, I don't think anyone at all would go see this movie. If you haven't been involved the last few months on forums and you see a commercial for a movie with no-name actors called Cloverfield, you're reaction is
who cares. I was originally intrigued because the title wasn't given out and it became a game of let's find out what's going on....so for jj's sake,
I am glad the viral marketing is here, because if it weren't for that, all Rob Hawkins would be hearing on 1-18-08 is the sound of crickets chirpping.

I'm with you starship - I'm also a bit snarked at the fact that we spent so much time on this (some more than others) with no surprise payoff. Just think how Dennis must feel. If they don't so something for him after all this it will be just plain sad. And though I know the whole goal of this was to get as much information about the movie as possible, I'm also angered that so many who had nothing to do with the "ARG" (and even trashed it and us for following it) have now gotten to sit, enjoy the movie and post spoilers. It's bullshit.

Just a comment about something in AICN review:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Harry said something about an Asian guy running up to the group and talking in Japanese. I wonder if this is the tie in to the "arg". It would be kinda cool if it was. Someone off the Tag tanker or something giving them the quick lowdown on how the creature was made and how it ended up in NYC. Just my little fantasy or wishful thing.

That's also in LC's review, but I hadn't thought of that. The director said there were a few nods to the web story, that might be one of them.

Yeah....thing is in a Viral Marketing Campaign....not sure about ARGs....but in a VMC the payoff is the damn MOVIE!!! Bottom line. We got lucky in that we saw the "news reports" of the platform getting destroyed, another little payoff in my mind.
Now that the movie has it's "market"..... I don't expect this "game" for lack of a better word....to continue past those news vids of Chuai.

It's been a fun ride.

Peace.

Maybe it was Lc's review and not Harrys', oh well doesn't matter. Hopefully there is some kind of closure with the Jamie story.

Jamie Story

/agreed

It's been a fun ride. It seems a damn shame that the only tie in is a two second clip of her drunk on the couch before death comes in the form of a giant monster. I can't imagine them spending so much time filming her for the VMC or ARG without a little bit more.

Jamie was always just one more connection between the movie and the VMC (forget ARG...see previous post about lack of puzzling). She was our gateway into the world of TIDOWave and our test subject when it came to raw SBN. It's obvious now that we were never supposed to like her or connect with her in the way we will with the movie characters. Her connection via MySpace was a rabbit hole for us to go down, nothing more.

As for time in the VMC vs time in the film, lots of characters appear in VMCs that don't show up in their related TV shows or movies. She actually got less time in VMC than some actors, and more time in her cameo in the movie. Besides, if she was in the film for more than a few seconds, you know which role she'd fill. Dumb blond friend who gets herself offed in some gruesome fashion through her own stupidity.

Thanks

Thanks M_talon. Great point. I guess I'm just being hopeful that the game doesn't end. But, in fact, as you pointed out, it's not a game anymore. It led us to the movie. They win. Smile
