Something strange about this email. The part with:

is a footer that's added by bigmailbox.com so anything that the sender writes, including a sig, should come before that (i.e. sender should not be able to type a message after that footer since it's added after he hits send). The only thing I can find that can come after that part should be attachments...

I'm probably wrong on this so maybe someone can explain...

Email confirmed

Just to note I got the same email - I threw a copy over in Puzzles before I noticed this thread here.

ah, i get it. after playing around with headers and footers, i found that that text at the end IS an attachment (filename "earn.txt" - get it? earn his trust). I guess most email programs just add the text of *.txt files right to the email itself...

Be advised

Be advised that there are 625 characters in the initial string - a 25x25 grid seems convenient:

HSHIJCRJBFNRCWXAZTIWTGSYE
XGWJDECYQRGUULOCRTBVIWULS
CPTSDWZVVHQHTKQGPUUMLLRED
UDMFJNSNERBHJASCSJYDDAGWC
JWDVPJZDHFXMEREKYHVLURYCW

ZIBGBEMFATMDFNNMOEHCLNMFW
BZQADVDBKYPFWERANJRLAGPUQ
ZSYSUYLZEFJAYHPLSWWWHOJNS
TBXRMDSZIKVFEPUSYTAWEDVAL

The 2 strings in the "box" at the bottom of the e-mail are also 25 characters long each:

y"&,@l%\v;>!f)q$}i*t+#^/b
a?=s^-_\@d#&,o(._%g*@:"/c

Not that I've figured how they may relate, but this smells fishier than Madonna did in the 80s...

GOT THE SAME MESSAGE...

WIll work on when i get home

this is a tough one...
We need to figure out the key to get the messasge

I ran it though the Vin Decoder using single letter keys from (A to Z) on just the 1st line and nothing.

so its not a single letter Key, maybe rot-x who knows.. I will keep cracking at it.

Question about TO line

Got a question gang....
the To: header ain't the address my letter was "addressed" to... sure I could be a BCC, but then who is the guy listed at the top of the food chain?

Well, I just googled the email address and got a couple of not in-game hits. Looks like he's a researcher at a belgium uni and is into interactive fiction and adventure games. Are you here Peter?

That's weird...my email wasn't addressed to Mr. Bienstman...it was from T. JOnes (caretakerSPLATblackvault.com) to caretakerSPLATblackvault.com.
Now when I send stuff at work to our agents I send it to myself and bcc it to all the people on my distribution list so they don't all know who it's going to....

Is there something about 25?

y"&,@l%\v;>!f)q$}i*t+#^/b
a?=s^-_\@d#&,o(._%g*@:"/c

sqrt(625) = 25

might just be clutching at straws...
what do you think?

i wrote a proggy from trying out the 25x25 grid idea... havnt found anything really interesting.. i ran some of the results through the anagram service... noticed nothing really interesting... ://

Code:
#include <iostream>
#include <string>

using namespace std;

int main(void)
{
   string decode, key1, key2;
   int i;
   key1 = "y\"&,@l%\v;>!f)q$}i*t+#^/b";
   key2 = "a?=s^-_\\@d#&,o(._%g*@:\"/c";

   decode = "HSHIJCRJBFNRCWXAZTIWTGSYEXGWJDECYQRGUULOCRTBVIWULSCPT

      for (i=0; i < key1.length(); i++)
      {
         cout  << decode[(25*(int)key2[i])+((int)key1[i])]; // key2 = y , key1=x ?
      }
      cout << endl;

   return 0;
}

Also, counted the characters...
A : 33
B : 16
C : 21
D : 30
E : 33
F : 29
G : 19
H : 24
I : 25
J : 26
K : 17
L : 23
M : 19
N : 18
O : 18
P : 25
Q : 19
R : 29
S : 32
T : 22
U : 23
V : 26
W : 26
X : 22
Y : 30
Z : 20

They seem too close to each other to be Letter-substitution crypto...
I think its got something to do with the 25x25 grid...?

Sleep sleep, sweet bed.

Hannes, please be a sweetie and put some breaks in the decode string, or snip it since we have it listed in full elsewhere, the end falls of the page... Wink

Thank you!

Does anybody know anything about PGP???

I just did some brief cryptography research (I'm a n00b, bare with me Embarassed ) and was thinking maybe those codes in the boxes below are the pgp passphrases/keys? But I don't really know enough about that format to really understand it.

Ideas???

Thx, D-

I considered that, but I couldn't get a key to extract from that text. Maybe someone better at PGP than me should try. Smile
