[SPEC] 1-18-08 - Date inconsistencies?

 		Im actually starting to think...

Maybe the people who saw this film got it wrong?

Maybe this even takes place on JANUARY 18th..but the TAPE is FOUND in May 2008?
Which means maybe a Post-ARG leading up to May?

The movie is already starting to sound like shit to me. The monster sounds bad. The times/dates sound bad. The movie sounds like it's OOG, which would mean i've wasted hours and hours writing and reading about this stuff. Nothing we've discovered has yet seemed to connect to the movie in any way whatsoever.

If it's an upset, than we have every right to be babies.

Why not? It's clearly his fault. He wanted people to watch his movie, and he wanted to make money. So what? He makes a viral marketing campaign that misleads people, with the sole purpose of occupying people's interest in the movie until the release date. Than people go to watch the movie, which actually had nothing to do with the ARG. Than it's not an ARG.

I originally followed on because I was curious. Eventually the lure of participating in discovering what there was to be discovered overcame my wanting to watch the movie itself. Now that I figure out that the ARG was for nothing, why can't I complain about it? Honestly, if you can't take bitching or people being upset because of faulty results, than you shouldn't participate. Don't be immature and go around calling people babies when they say that their expectations weren't met.


lol... me not participate? I'm still an avid fan of the ARG/ARE and the movie- can you say the same? the fact is- your complaints are petty. they're pointless. And you learned more from this ARG than you would have w/o it. You now know who Rob got a job with, you now know that there was a corporation who discovered it. You sure as hell know that it's not a lion, or Cthulhu. But you know- the dates should be the one thing that ruins it for you and people are being a little dramatic when they say that the dates now make the movie seem OOG.

That doesn't disprove the fact that the ARG was faulty. Faulty machinery can kill.

I'm sorry... but if you missed out on the entire ARG/ARE- The only thing that the dates did was lead us to discover 01-18-08.com and that was it. From there came jamieandteddy.com and that was it. Slusho, Tagruato, T.I.D.O. Wave all came from the Slusho shirt we discovered in the teaser. You see, the dates weren't REALLY that important. They were only important because we assumed they were. We assumed that the movie was real time. That's what WE get for assuming. We know what kind of person J.J. Abrams is- WE SHOULDN'T EVEN ASSUME when it comes to his Virals.

again, you're being dramatic about this. Faulty machinery can kill? seriously, do you want some dramatic music or an explosion to happen right now? I would have preferred this half-ass ARG over nothing. It gave me something to enjoy and to fill my downtime with.

And i'm sorry if I'm coming off as an ass, I'm just defending something that I enjoy and have become a fan of.

 		Don't forget the fact that Caplan (Marlena) says in her interview that her character doesn't even really know any of the other friends.

So the myspace pages are wrong too.

For real, this is not an ARG. Or if it is, then the movie is OOG.

But isn't that all a viral really is? Assumption? We could assume something that acts like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck is a duck, but than it could turn out to be a man in a duck suit couldn't it?

And fine. Take it that the dates don't make a dramatic difference. It was still always something to go by. The majority of us are upset. Perhaps you're simply more mentally stable or whatnot, but the fact is that we're upset. Why should you be the one to exploit our discomfort and call us babies? Why not point out in a calm friendly manner that "Hey, it really doesn't make that big of a difference"? "The events stay the same, the physical evidence looks relatively similar. You probably shouldn't worry about it."

We're not babies because something we wanted didn't happen. Nor is the CEO of a major corporation a baby because he flopped a multi-billion dollar deal.

This ARG has the same elements as the Lost ARG and had nothing to do with the show, didn't hear those fans complaining. Or perhaps you're not fans of the movie- simply fans of ARGs.

Like I said, I joined because I wanted an explanation. The ARG just botched some of the explanation. And we still have nothing.

my God that's over-dramatic. again- I'm sorry that i'm seeming like an ass, but I'm not a fan of ARGs, I'm a fan of this movie and all that has surrounded it which coincidentally is an ARG. For that much, i'm enjoying this viral ride for what it is, in whatever path it's taking me.

And again- lets wait for this Viral Marketing Campaign to play out before we start making complaints. Do I want an explanation for all this and some of the errors- hell yes I do. But we might not get one because their main goal is to leave the important stuff up to our imaginations.

What we all wanted explained by joining this ARG? The movie. Cloverfield. And like I said, eventually the ARG part of this whole experience became just as important as the movie itself because it was the key to getting my explanation. And you're right. I do know considerably more now than I did before. But this simple factor, the dates, has opened another gap that nobody really wants to bother filling.

Then it leads me to say, lets just wait this out. We don't know what tomorrow holds as far as the information goes and it seems to keep pouring in. But just know that big information- we're not gonna get [at least not now] because they want us to fill in the gaps w/ our imaginations [Sherryl Clark (Executive Producer) from the online interview]

maybe the ARG continues and we find out his trip to Japan has been postponed until the spring - doesn't explain why it takes so long for MGP to make it to NY but maybe we'll find out later where he spent his time. there was never anything to say he was on a direct path to NY. maybe he went back to sleep or got lost. i don't know, just trying to make sense of it all.
