i can understand the intense speculation over the symbol appearing...especially because it was so sudden that you can barely catch it...but i kinda have to believe they put it in there for this exact reason:
for us to over analyze it and try and figure out what it means...which is probably nothing other than to keep us guessing into the VMC

It's an easter egg, and a red herring it's nothing that we should be looking into, more than "hey look Dharma's pearl station logo"

if i remember from when the first teaser was shown, there was speculation that it was a lost movie, and im pretty sure JJ said that it was NOT a lost movie, that this was a completely new project. I'm gonna try and find that interview, and hopefully we can put an end to this silliness and get back to the matter at hand.
****now back to our regular scheduled programing*****

Stepping it up a size for somewhat new info.

I used search for DARPA and saw nothing. At the beginning, if you look at the bottom of the screen you can see some white lettering, but there's a black bar over it.
A moment before it gets to the segment of Rob filming in Beth's dad's place, the bar disappears. All I saw was "DARPA", and I believe some numbers after that.
I have a cam copy but I refuse to watch it, I feel dirty, so if someone wants to get the whole thing...go'head.

I'm on my way out right now or I'd read more about Darpa to maybe put some pieces together. I'll try later though.

I just wanted to add my two cents to this one: 1. The case designate does not have to indicate the military collecting information, but rather any branch of the Federal government can use the case designate. Since this is clearly an attempt to collect data on an non-understood case, it can be seen as Project Bluebook, etc. It could be NSA, CIA, or some other non-descript government funded 'think tank' that is compiling the evidence. 2. Did anyone think that although there may not be a direct link between all JJ's work, it could be like Stephen King's work, where somehow all universes are connected and thus the interweaving group/logos/incidences? 3. I have this weird idea about the dates.... really not totally significant, but interesting: what if the movie happened in an 'alternate universe' and our ARE is showing us how to prevent Cloverfield????

No, no, and....um....oh yea, no.

Cloverfield is Cloverfield. Not 'Lost: The Movie'.

Re: [SPEC] [SPOILERS] "Case, Designate, "CLOVERFIELD"
Discussion of evidence pointing to the CASE

SuperSquirrel wrote:
Regarding the pictures presented to us on site 01-18-08. StarshipTrooper and I were talking and decided that the purpose of this web site is to build a case file and that these pictures are merely, "exhibits" to be presented in the Case. The Case is to be Designate "Cloverfield" and may be the U.S. against TAG or your spec. I brought this thread over because our discussion was getting a little to Spoilerish. I will let the others help fill in!

Here are the current documents that have been documented for "The Case"

1. The Photos at 01-18-08
2. The Movie: Which was tagged at the beginning and at the end as if it were "owned" by the military as an official file. Both in the beginning and at the end were the words "DoD Property Do Not Duplicate. Also there were DoD official tags: "DoD (7) 31-16-12" and "NGTA 901-836" Not sure what those tags mean in RL if anything.
3. TIDO's Website has been locked down apparently by the Department of External Affairs. If it is part of the builidng of Case Designate "Cloverfield" its evidence number maybe posted at the top 18USCEC 2332b.

The DoD tags are non-existent chapters in the 'Garden Plot' operations guide for the US Military's civil response plan. 'Noble Eagle' was the codename given to the 9/11 attack response,,,and there was another for Katrina which escapes me at the moment..but they are just variations on the base 'Operation: Garden Plot"... I do have the operational guide though, should anyone want to have a look see. Not much to divine from it unless you like reading Field Manuals.

Nope, DARPA.
And yes, that's the website.

It's at the very bottom of the screen, partially obscured by a black bar until just before the beginning scene with Rob and Beth. A moment before it goes into the scene, the black bar disappears and it says "DARPA", followed by a bit more. I think it was numbers, I don't recall if they were stationary or just another timer.

From DARPA website:
Quote:
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is the central research and development organization for the Department of Defense (DoD). It manages and directs selected basic and applied research and development projects for DoD, and pursues research and technology where risk and payoff are both very high and where success may provide dramatic advances for traditional military roles and missions.

DARPA works in conjunction with the DoD, so it makes sense.
If someone could get the numbers that follow "DARPA", maybe we can find something else of interest.

Darpa.com as listed in the above post's whois info is a junk site...domain for sale.

www.darpa.mil exists OOG.

Here is the wikipedia for DARPA:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DARPA

I was called ARPA back in the day, and for any of ya old enough to remember it...the ARPANET was the predecessor to today's INTERNET. Wink

It's a real government thing, so it's OOG.
It just gives a little more background into what the video is being used for, maybe? It says "EVIDENCE" but DARPA is more about Research and Development...
I just woke up so I'm probably not thinking completely straight.

I'd be more concerned about seeing the numbers that come after "DARPA", those could mean something. Or nothing.
Think I'm going again today, so I might be able to see what they are.
