 		Then why are there dates on the blogs? They're posted on a specific date in a specific order..that really goes against your theory. I'm talking about the MySpace pages not the 1-18-08 site. I believe that the time stamps on those photos could possibly be from when they were found/printed...However, the mass inconsistencies on the MySpace pages practically takes them OOG. From Marlena being friends with people, to Rob saying he's leaving soon (in Jan), to Hawk chugging Slusho! before it was accepted stateside...

This viral marketing is crap, seriously...No amount of theorizing could save the jumbled mess that is this incoherent story...Look at jamieandteddy.com the one thing we all thought was going to give us some more insight to the story...Has it? Really, has it?

 		I totally agree with the Case File Theory. But...I have a continuity problem. Being the pics on 1-18-08. I know it's been discussed to death but the fact that Jamie dated her's on the back as Jan 18, bothers me.

So, what if, the movies takes place in May 08? May being when they find/release the video. Like the movie starting off with a date of May 08 and the video reflecting events taking place on Jan 08?

I just find the differences in the dates too much of a mismatch - too glaring of a mistake for the filmmakers to make.

Possible that the pre-screening copy has been tweeked up and changed slightly for the release on Friday.

A couple people have been saying this...I think it's a very real possibility for such a secretive project (and, also, considering the guy behind it all).

To answer this question Hawk recently mentioned on myspace (I believe) that a japanese friend paid off a debt to him with Slusho! which we assume he brought from Japan.

@Starship.....you said nothing had nbeen found from Myspace but that is not correct we got Teddy's name from Myspace commments betweeen Lena and Jaime and that is how we found Jamielovesteddy otherwise it would not have been found.

That would solve the whole thing, if the movie is a metamovie, presenting the major case evidence in may-08 from the events of january-08.

That would mean the movie could have snippets of information, in form of subtitles, marks etc. that would help to explain the plot, without needing additional shots except from the camcorder.

Thus the movie doesnt "take place" in january-08 per se.

i had an idea regarding the time inconsistancies, probably already brought up, but i think it was matt reeves who said that everytime the camera cuts away its a jump FORWARD in time, so

the people who are saying the movie is in May may they only be seeing the rob and beth part in may, maybe being the only time a date is shown in the movie perhaps? and maybe the camera cuts and we jump to the party,meaning it couldvery well take place in january and the time jump is jus confusing?

 		Re: the date in the movie... my cell phone has had the wrong date and time on it for months, in fact, it says it is August 12th, 2006. I never use it for date, time or scheduling, so I don't care and its amusing to see other react... Who says the in-movie date is right?

I also agree that the actual release may have a corrected date in it... only Friday and a week from now (assuming any further IG material releases after the movie) will tell us for sure.

btw, don't the TIDOwave site and the time-line of activities, as well as the news broadcasts, all force the issue of current date to the events?

 		I simply have a hard time buying the "Movie takes place in May" thing. Particularly with the "No Advanced Screenings" announcment. Even if it does, the last theory of a metamovie does hold water. I doubt that JJ Abrams, no strnager to having his work in an ARG, would make such simple mistakes as those suggested in earlier posts.

And frankly, there is no sense in debating continuity errors with the movie so close. If the ARG is opening to Cloverfield, let it be the opening to Cloverfield. If the ARG is opening up after the movie, so be it. If the ARG leads to a pre/sequal, I simply must laugh.

yeah i agree that he would be one to not show the real movie until the 18th...i mean how long as he been screwing with all of us with this marketing campain? we all thought we were so close to figuring stuff out and boom....all goes back to little things that make no sense, which i througlly have enjoyed watching happen, shows his genius...or insanity...but thewhole sequel/prequel idea givesme a headache...no sequel is EVER as good, nor is a prequel...NOBODY deserves to have a good movie ruined because of a sequel/prequel

The filmmakers didn't/don't care about this date issue I am positive. Therefore they didn't think of it as a mistake, considering they didn't seem to have planeed there to be ANY SORT of ARG/ARE or whatever when they filmed the first teaser. Read the interviews again if you doubt this statement. Once things caught on on the internet, they most likely said, OK! Get a marketing firm on this pronto.

So to say that the actual filmmakers made mistakes is pointless here and now cause they are the furthest people involved from the ARG/ARE/Viral Campaign. It's is not likely that JJ Abrams sat down with John D. Marketer, ie a PM and wrote out everything this ARE has shown us in every little detail!!!! Hardly.

The filmmakers are ALL off doing other FILMS. Wink
The only time I am sure they ever had a say in this VMC(viral marketing campaign) is when the marketing co. they hired asked them for GENERAL ideas to create this quasi backstory for the movie.

So people need to lay off "the filmmakers" and start bitchin at the marketing peeps who layed this all out.

 		I believe a LONG time ago someone here found out who represented this ARG/ARE and the name of a PM behind it. Don't feel like searching for it now...but it's here somewhere.

Also remember, the Writer's Guild is on strike....so there is no help for any marketing company devising a VMC or ARG/ARE in regards to any decent storylines or writing in general worth a salt. Razz
