Clusterwan,

That was your first one? WOW! That makes it so much more impressive. Really nice job.

Where do you go to school? It does my heart good to know that there are more and more schools out there teaching Final Cut Pro. I have edited using Premier and Avid as well but nothing is as fun for me as Final Cut.

I like how you incorporated multiple programs into your project. Even on smaller projects I like to layer stuff in from Motion and/or Photoshop. I find that the best way for me to learn other programs is to challenge myself with an ambitious Final Cut project then try and find solutions in Photoshop, Motion, Garage Band, etc. Fun Stuff.

Your project is so full of imagery and moving things...it turned out really pretty. Reminds me a bit of the Sgt. Peppers album cover. The more you look at it, the more you discover. I would have given you an "A" as well!

Well, keep at it and keep posting your projects on youtube. I will keep my eye out for your work. I will be interested to see what you come up with in the future. Very Happy

I go to a school called Full Sail in Winter Park, Fl. I did this not for a school proj. but on my time in school. I mixed the photshop and Cg in Shake. The animation was all done in shake as well all except the whale turning, moving it's tail, and the spining Slusho cup. I was thinking of Pinocchio and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen for the last part. For The first part I was thinking of Trancing the viewer. Thanksyou Smile I love The Beatles so that could have rubbed off.
Yours was great as well! I love the kite and the camera cuts very well done. How did you do the breath at the end? It looks great! I love the acting as well I couldn't help but feel for the characters before they get Slusho.

Sorry for not being able to say anything sooner. But here how things went down. I went to see Cloverfield last Friday at 7:45pm (Houston time). At that point I had not heard anything about the contest so I was kind of ready to blow it off. When I got out of the movie, which was fantastic, I called my ex-wife and had her check the Slusho website. I couldn't believe it but they sent me an email while I was in the theater watching the movie. How's that for timing? The email was congratulatory and had instructions on mailing in some legal forms. Those forms kind of spooked me. I am not a lawyer and was afraid that there was language in the documents that might disgualify me if I said anything before they made their official announcement. So I kept mum for a while.

I really wanted to let you guys know because that waiting stuff SUCKED! But at least they acknowledged everyones hard work by awarding runner up prizes. That's pretty cool.

So that's it. What a cool ride, huh?! Like I said before, it was the process, not winning or losing, that was most enjoyable. Making a commercial like these is no cake walk. There is a lot involved. It can be a real test for yourself. Everyone who managed to shoot one deserves major kudos. Great job everyone!

I do have one suggestion though. I am not sure about the best way to do this but how about we all shoot a brief video once our prizes arrive and tell the Slusho (Bad Robot/Paramount) people how much fun this deal was. I'm not talking about just those who get a laptop, but everyone who will be acknowledged by Slusho with runner up prizes. I am sure they would like the additional buzz we create by posting more Slusho related stuff and we would all get a chance to meet each other, so to speak. You know, associate a face with a project. And I also think we should keep up this whole Slusho myth. Pretend that Slusho is a real thing. This could be our way of helping to embellish the back story. I can just imagine people looking at our vids saying "What the hell is this Slusho crap anyway?!" He he he!

Well i was wondering if anyone had received an email saying that they are a runner up yet? I personally have not. I just wanted to put in my .02 about the winners. I Only mentioned in these forums 2 entries that i thought were definite winners no matter what, reagen and seadot(the live action one with the animated robot popping out of the tv.) but as for the other 3 i liked(not loved, liked) the crocodile hunter spoof. but personally i really didn't like the one with the robot coming to life, maybe just a matter of taste but it seemed a little generic to me and i figure that they should have had music (probably just the slusho music) to go with their dance scene. as for the last one (the only fully animated one to win) i flat out am shocked that it won. Sure they probably realized how much effort was put into it and gave him some points for that, but if this were being viewed as an actual advertising campaign i wouldn't want my drink to be shown as being regurgitated by some creepy looking cartoon. (Maybe that isn't what the guy was going for but it seems to me like the freaky looking toon starts to gag, and then a flowing stream of slusho is coming down into the mouths of the other guys.) so there is my take on the selected winners, although i dont agree with some of them i will say congrats to all who won and all who will be receiving a runner-up prize.

CONGRATULATIONS!

You all did a great job, though only two of my favorites won - reagan & sea dot - I didn't know the others - I hope my other faves got runner up prizes!

I, for one, am very proud of all of you! Brownies for all!

Brownie Brownie Brownie Brownie Brownie Brownie Brownie Brownie Brownie Brownie Brownie Brownie Brownie

Edited to add: I agree, phantom - I didn't feel that Slusho! vomit one - nasty! Have a brownie!

I also did not really care for the robot picture. We did some checking, and the guy who did it is actually a filmmaker, and has a "filmography." Wasn't this supposed to be for amateurs?

Anyhoo, we have been lurkers for some time, and I want to let you all know how much fun this whole commercial has been! If we get the other prizes (no clue if we will, but a slusho cup would be...umm....ROCKIN!) we should all make shorts of a few seconds long and merge them together like a video thank-you note to JJ.

Thanks for the enjoyment!

if that is really the case fly then you should email slusho about it. it said specifically in the contest rules that professional filmmakers weren't eligible to win. But if you do email slusho then make sure that you include links to your evidence.
