Heh, the runners up part was a neat surprise, but I'll no doubt miss out on that too. Congrats to the winners -like some of you, I whole-heartedly agree on some and disagree on others, but c'est la vie.

With regards to the animated puking slusho cup -I guess they prefer to see slusho coming from the mouth of a cup than the underside of a jellyfish balloon. Shocked

I'd participate in an Unfiction group-wide video-salute to Slusho! and all associated parties if anyone else was gonna do it. We could make one video comprised of all our personal "thanks" and then post the whole thing on each our own youtube pages.

Congrats to the winners They are all very Good Smile I love them all. I hope that it isn't true about one of the winners being a professional that would just be a shame. I would think that somebody that entered would have read the rules. If they did and still decided to enter in a commercial it taints the whole thing and ruins the fun that every body had doing this or, like they said on the rules, bring bad shame to slusho. If this is true and you have prof then I would do as said before and contact slusho. I hope that this isn't the case.
I had a lot of fun and would like to say one more time Congrats to the winners and I'm looking forward to see more work from all of them. I think a video thanks to slusho would be fun.

So after the initial "don't be a gloater" reaction I got when I first posted here I was turned off to this forum and had it set in my mind that I'd just not post again. But now something's come up that I should address.

I'm not a troller. I did make a commercial and I did win. I'm the guy who made the robot commercial. I said in my original posts that I didn't want to say which commercial was mine until the official announcement had been made but when everyone started insisting that I say which commercial was mine I got annoyed and fought goofiness with goofiness. I'm glad I never did say which commercial was mine since no one would have complained openly about it if I had.

FlaTeacher wrote:
I also did not really care for the robot picture. We did some checking, and the guy who did it is actually a filmmaker, and has a "filmography." Wasn't this supposed to be for amateurs?

Anyhoo, we have been lurkers for some time, and I want to let you all know how much fun this whole commercial has been! If we get the other prizes (no clue if we will, but a slusho cup would be...umm....ROCKIN!) we should all make shorts of a few seconds long and merge them together like a video thank-you note to JJ.

And this is exactly the kind of behavior that I was talking about before. This person just joined this site now to complain that one of the entries was made by a professional filmmaker? They make it clear that they shot a commercial for the contest. I find it hard to believe that they didn't want to join this discussion (or any on this site) prior to now. It seems pretty obvious that this is a regular poster that created a n ew account so they could lodge an anonymous complaint.

Speaking of anonymous messages, on youtube I found that someone left me this comment:

What other stuff have you done? I see that you have had some of your work in some film festivals and such. Is there anything out there we can get our hands on? Are you going to be in any festivals coming up? Have you won any? It is fun! Congrats!

FlaTeacher, did you leave me that comment? Funny how it seems so positive but read between the lines and you'll see what it really means "so are you a professional filmmaker??? Aren't you ineligible to win???"

It says on youtube that the comment was left by someone named "rkkyrcoon." The account was created just this week. "Flateacher" and "rkyrcoon" have to be the same person. I don't say anywhere on my youtube account that I've ever had work shown in a film festival. You'd really have to do some serious "digging" (and googling) to find that out.

I don't understand why anyone felt the need to create fake accounts just to leave anonymous comments and complaints. I don't understand why people felt the need to do some digging to try and find reasons that winners should be disqualified. For God's sake, it's just a contest people. Calm down. It's not necessary to attack other entries or try and get people's prizes taken away.

No need to go tell on me though. The contest was closed to "Professional" filmmakers. I am not a professional. I don't work in film/tv/video production and I have never been paid for any of my work. I've also never had any of my stuff released or distributed anywhere. I had two short films shown in two no-name film festivals when I was in college. That was it. I don't even have a camera. I had to borrow one to shoot my entry. Just because I have a "filmography" listed somwhere it doesn't mean that those short films were ever seen by more than a few hundred people. Everybody happy? Lots of aspiring filmmakers entered the contest. The person who made the CG robots commercial says in her youtube bio that she's had her work in film fests.

Flateacher, what commercial was yours? And when you say "We" did some digging, who is "we?" And what was your motivation behind your research?

Hey did we ever find out who GhostWriter was or who he represented? Ghostwriter is not me by the way.

so wait let me get this straight, you complain about someone making a new account in order to post without anyone knowing who they are, isn't that what you did by making the name slushoman? also you say that they would have to do some serious digging to find anything of yours? after reading his post i went and watched your slusho commercial, looked at your youtube channel and on that page it lists your website. how much digging did that take?

as i said before congrats for winning, i didn't personally like yours but i can see how it won. heres to hope we all get something.

I just told you what commercial I made and who I am. in my first post I said I didn't want to say what commercial was mine until the contest was over. If I used my youtube name that'd be an instant give away. Like other people who won who post here I didn't want to say anything until it was 100% official. I didn't read anything that said winners couldn't announce that they won before Slusho did but I thought it better to be safe than sorry. That's a far cry from creating fake youtube accounts just to give other entries low ratings and bad comments.

Oh wait, after re-reading flteacher's post it says they did some "checking" not "digging." So I was wrong when I quoted them as saying "digging." Sorry for the misrepresentation.

Still it bothers me that someone felt the need to "check" on me at all and then report their findings about me to others. No one bothered to send me a message (on youtube) and ask if I was a professional. Instead people are encouraging FLteacher to go tell Slusho on me. Apparently it's pretty easy for people to find out lots of information about me. My e-mail address is right next to my filmography that FLteacher and phantomjester found. Anybody think to e-mail me and ask me straight out if I followed the rules of the contest? No. Instead people wanted to go behind my back and try and get me thrown out of the contest with false accusations.

I was 100% eligible to submit an entry. What if FLteacher wrote slusho and said "i have proof that the guy who made the Slusho powered robot commercial is a pro and a cheater." You guys don't know what kind of paperwork the winners had to sign. What if Slusho reserved the right to disqualify someone at any time for any reason? What if they got a complaint and decided to err on the side of cation and just pick a new winner without checking the validity of Flteacher's complaint? Do you guys really want to win that bad that you want to try and get people kicked out of the contest?

Honestly, at this point can anyone blame me for saying that some people took this contest way too seriously?

Well here it goes,
Slushoman I wouldn't worry that is what happens in contests. That is the reason that people take it so seriously. A contest is a compition between 2 or more people. Of course people are going to check on the winners thats the way life is. If you have nothing to hide then don't worry about it. One post is enough. No need to push it this to people that don't matter with the results. If they do decide to investigate it, it sounds like you should be able to prove your not. Nobody really needs to ask you because they would probably think that they wouldn't get a serious answer from you seeing how you acted before with your goofy to fight goofy (Although I don't agree with it and thought it was childish). I wouldn't think to ask if I thought you were a professional. I would think that if you did cheat that you probably wouldn't give a truthful answer because unfortunatly that's how people are. By getting this way your just going to make everyone think you are guilty. Don't worry they seem to be on the ball with this and I don't think they would have awarded you if they had any question. If they do and they do an investigation then you should be able to prove this to them with ease. This is a pretty cut and dry thing either you are or aren't if there are grey areas then of course people are going to question it's in our nature, it's how we try and understand things when we don't get.
Oh and by the way checking and digging in this case they mean the same thing. Well anyway congrats and don't worry about it.

I am staying as far from this (the Slushoman issue) as I can.

Congratulations are in order to all who won, to those who will receive a runners up prize and to all who took the time to make a commercial.

There is something to be said for winning graciously. How we behave in these situations is very telling about who we are. I am thankful and humbled by the experience. It has motivated me to shoot more of my own projects. It really was a joy. Other winners might not choose to approach winning the same way, and that's fine.

I will end with a quote from Lord Jeffrey...

"The tendency to whining and complaining may be taken as the surest sign symptom of little souls and inferior intellects."
Wink

Wow. So it's guilty until proven innocent then?

Google any of the films from my filmography. You won't find them listed anywhere. Most of them are student films. Check netflix. They ain't there. The idea that I should have to defend myself against charges made by some anonymous complaint made by someone on a message board is just dumb.

The best evidence I can provide about me not being a professional is the entry itself. Just look at it. It looks bad. It was shot in a basement and my cardboard robot was ripping apart at the seams. Even my slusho (Gatorade and snow) looked bad. I think the reason that it won is because they wanted commercials that were original and captured the fun spirit of slusho and they didn't worry too much about technical stuff.

I also think Slusho wanted a stylistically diverse group of winners. There were a lot of good animated entries but they couldn't pick 5 animated commercials. So they picked the most fun and original animated one. There weren't a lot of great live action commercials and a lot of them had obvious flaws like copy writed music and offensive material. Phantomjester's didn't win because it was mean spirited and might offend fat people. I saw another commercial that made fun of people in wheelchairs. Another seemed to making fun of asians. So the pool of watchable, non-offensive, live-action entries that weren't too long wasn't huge.

No one here knew that the commercial with the robot in it was made by me until now so that argument doesn't make sense. No one contacted me because they didn't want to know the truth. They just wanted to complain and maybe raise a big enough stink to get slusho to pick a new winner.

See, the winky face makes it clear that this post is supposed to be tongue and cheek and not a genuine insult. So that was the lecture on winning graciously. Are we going to get one on being a good sport even if you don't win? Reagan, your commercial clearly uses famous sound effects that you didn't create. Even if those effects are public domain, using material that you didn't create yourself is against the contest rules. Should FlTeacher e-mail Slusho and tell them they should disqualify you? How would you feel if people were encouraging each other to do that?

Regan88, we get it. You're thankful and humble and a good person and better than all the rest of us jerks. You refuse to stoop to insulting people (except when you camouflage those insults in your lectures about conduct) You are wise and get to tell everyone how to behave and anyone who doesn't behave like you is "inferior" according to you and lord jeffery. Your soul is pure and you are deserving of people's respect. As you said, even your students think you're so awesome that they were probably inspired to trash other people's entries on your behalf.

I wish I had a fancy quote to deploy in a response to your pretentious, passive swipe at me but all I can find is this definition from Wikipedia that I think is appropriate:

Superiority complex: Refers to a subconscious neurotic mechanism of compensation developed by the individual as a result of feelings of inferiority.

Reagan, you can go back to telling people to behave now. I won't interrupt anymore. I'm done with this argument and this forum. I'm going for good. If anybody has any questions about me then I hope you'll have the decency to contact me through youtube before discussing the matter behind my back.

Wink

Well i wasn't going to post any more on this, but you obviously took what I said the wrong way. I was really trying to stick up for you and tell not to worry. Then you put down and half the people that entered in the contest in your last post ( people that worked very hard on there projects just like you). I know you said you were done with this Forum so this is for everybody else. This is his bio from a website for a Documentary that he made on Nerdcore. You decide if he sounds like a professional. Here's the web site this comes from http://www.nerdcoreforlife.com/aboutus.html

Dan Lamoureux - Producer/Director

Dan is a native of the south suburbs of Chicago and has been writing,
producing and directing his own films since the 8th grade. After
working for a Post-production house and the communications
services Department of South Suburban College, Dan received a
Media Fellowship from Saint Xavier University in 2001. After
completing his first feature length project he graduated in the spring
of 2002. Over the years Dan has co-hosted his own college radio
show, had pieces screen in several film festivals, has acted in and
crewed for countless student films and appeared in several stage
productions. In August 2005 a friend dragged him to see a "nerd
rapper" named mc chris who was performing at the Double Door in
Chicago. The only reason Dan agreed to go was because mc chris
had supplied voice talent to one of his favorite shows, Aqua Teen
Hunger Force. The performance was an astounding display of both
Nerd pride and Nerd rage and before the evening was over Dan
knew that he wanted to explore this world of Geek Rap that he would
soon learn was known as "Nerdcore." Besides producing and
directing, Nerdcore For Life!, Dan will also be one of the project's
primary cameraman.

If you worked in a post production house then That is pretty professional and you got paid to work in the industry. I'm also staring to think maybe they didn't investigate the winners because they knew so many people investigated the movie that they would most likely do the same to the contestants that won.

This contest was so much fun until Slushoman came along. What a miserable person. Perhaps his fat friends should shove a funnel in his head and pour some Slusho into his brain. He could use an injection of something positive. Can you imagine hanging out with this sad sack of sh_t? What a downer! He must complain about everything. He seems to get off on pointing out the flaws of others. Classic! Oh well. He says he's moving on so let's trust he will do so. Good Riddance Slushoman. Have fun pissing people off and making "amateur" videos with your obese hangers on. I regret that you are taking up space as one of the top five. There are so many others who deserve to be there and who would have accepted it with class. Not like you. Move along and let us enjoy what is left of this experience...PLEASE! I will not sign off with a quote this time as you think it is pretentious (and I do so value your opinion). I will simply mention three words that I think will help you be a better person. Those three words are... JENNY CRAIG and LITHIUM! In other words, take a chill pill you fat f_ck!

Wink

Wait a minute! There is that wink again! What could it mean? Surely it's not there by accident. Slushoman knows that it has to mean something. Could it possibly mean that I am a Mason on the tenth order and have secret knowledge handed down from the ancient Egyptians that tell me that Slushoman is a direct descendant of the half god creatures that once ruled over Mesopotamia and that we should bow down to his superior intellect even though he appears to be a petty shell of a man who is only happy when he insults others? And he has a small penis? Hmmmm...it is a mystery, isn't it?

Holy carp, you are really reading too much into what I said, and you are getting your pants all in a bundle...

It sort of went like this. Watched your video, clicked on your you tube account (clicked on many of them, to see if they had other slusho/cloverfield related stuff), thought the nerdcore thing looked interesting (I am a self proclaimed nerd who is into music...) and went to the site that is linked or mentioned on the profile (cannot remember which it is.)

That is it. No digging, just thought it looked cool (and it does, we are honestly interested in the nerdcore concept.) We (my husband and I) love things like the Saturday Night live music videos (Chronic of Narnia) so this just seemed like something we would enjoy.

And why have we not registered on this site before? Because we discuss on 1-18-08news.com. Also, I was innocently looking on google searching "slusho commercial contest" to see if there were any winners yet. We were waiting to see what was going to happen. I figured I would search the discussion boards to get a feel if anyone had been notified yet.

I have no idea what this "ghostwriter" thing is about. I do not have the time to post random stuff that means nothing to me. When I mention "we" that is just how I speak about my husband and myself. He is the real cloverfield junkie in this family, and I am along for a ride. We have had a great time getting involved in this process, and we are genuinely good people. We work hard, we love our families, and we just want what is right to prevail.

We do not think our entry was winning material. We entered with the silly hopes of all the commercials potentially being on a supplemental DVD or a door prize (we would LOVE that slusho cup!) We are not rabble rousers, sour grapes, or anything like that. I was just asking a simple question.

If ANY person were to look at your site, they could think you were a professional filmmaker, so don't be upset with me for thinking you were/are.
