Problem with the rumored ending.. (Possible Spoilers?)

Okay, so... I've read a lot of reviews by people who have claimed to have seen the film, and they all describe a similar ending, but... I kinda wonder if that's really true. That all seem to say that...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
...the movie ends with Rob and Beth under a bridge that ends up collapsing on them

But... from the production photos I've seen, and from the clips in the trailers, it looks like that scene occurs at night (this is especially obvious in the production photos), for example-

But, there's a scene in the trailers that seems to contradict that....

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The trailers show Rob and some other people (I can't make out who), in a helicopter that's spinning out of control. It's fairly light outside, so it seems like this scene is happening in the early morning. See this picture: http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj299/untheath/helicopter.jpg

So, it looks like that scene happens after the scene that everyone's saying is the ending. It also seems weird that none of the reviews (at least none that i've read) even mention that scene... and it seems pretty major...

Is it possible the real ending hasn't leaked yet?

Well, while there's the possibility that the ending we're seeing in these advance screenings isn't entirely honest, I think we also have to bear in mind that, with contemporary production techniques, just about anything is possible.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Namely, I wouldn't think it very difficult to make an "indoors" night shot look like early morning. This sort of thing has been going on for quite a while, now; for example, in early war movies they would film a "night" segment during the day and simply adjust the contrast to make it appear like a nighttime scene. This is obviously a crude example, considering the advances made in cinematic technology since the mid-1900s, but I think the principle holds true. They could make a scene shot under a bridge, with no appreciable view of the sky, occur at just about whatever time of day they wanted, I would think.

Edit
Minor changes.

Yeah, that makes sense... I just hate to think we all already know how it ends Sad

Well, I guess someone shouldn't be reading those nasty little spoilers, hm? Wink

Seriously, though ... call me old-fashioned, but I consider the journey to be the best part. I don't bank entertainment value on endings alone. If Reeves can carry me through a monster attack on New York from the perspective he's using and do it in a convincing way with a believable storyline - then I'll be happy. The ending is just punctuation, as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah we know for fact there will be a different ending. Odette said it herself. There is an ending that the cast doesn't even know about. They will probaly find out on Thursday. Oh the excitment.

That pretty much means the ending involves the monster and not so much the cast.

Ever seen Clerks? The interior scenes were all filmed at night when the store was closed for business. It was the only way they could use the place. However, the movie takes place during the day. They used "movie magic" (aka keeping the blinds closed) to preserve the illusion of daytime.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
My guess is they filmed Central Park at night to avoid the crowds and to protect the secrecy of the film. Looking at the production photo, the set is very well lit. I doubt they would have used that much light if they were wanting to capture a nighttime scene.

Some of the early reviews state that the movie ends at about a quarter till 7am the morning after the attack. Find a more detailed review (like the Paramount screening thread) and it will make much more sense how it all fits together.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The chopper goes down about 6am. the army tells the gang to meet up at the helipad at 0600 hours or they'll be part of the wide scale "hammering" of bombing that will happen soon afterwards... the chopper goes down soon after 6pm, and when they are revived, there is daylight. This also confirms the whole May idea, since if it were in Janurary it would still likely be dark out by this time. Now I don't remember the time stamp of this scene, but I do remember them commenting about how the bombing will begin like at 6:45 or so... so the gang was out cold long enough for the sun to come up and for the bombing to begin... which was a bit of a head scratcher to me, but I guess it works.
