So this is supposed to be the "American Godzilla"?

When I see Godzilla, i know what he is. When someone asks me to describe Godzilla, it's easy. Same with Kong. NO BODY can describe this thing, or give any details about it. How is THIS supposed to be our monster "Icon"?

Having seen it, one thing is for sure: This is a movie about an EVENT, and NOT a movie about a monster. The monster isn't charming, isn't well defined, doesn't have many memorable traits outside of its freaky appearance...to call it an icon akin to Kong or Godzilla is totally off for sure. It's simply not meant to be that.

Sounds like JJ has failed yet again. Confused

A few more random notes:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
A lot of the popular lines from the trailers and commercials are in the film, but NOT in the same spots as they're heard in the ads.

Marlena's explosion is SUPER quick. If you got a half a second more than what the commercials showed, you would've seen everything. (And all you see is some blood splat against the sheet.)

The mini-monsters: I'd call them alien spiders. They were definitely a welcome addition to the film.

I don't think Rob, Hud and group thought so. Laughing

To both questions: Not that I know of.

Also, regarding the implications of the ending:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
There's been some disagreement between those who have seen the film: Did they nuke Manhattan or just bomb the shit out of it? Well, I guess we don't know, but it certainly seemed to me that there would be no more Manhattan after the military got through doing what it planned to do.

Any explination of the title. Reeves said it would be obvious why the movie is named "Cloverfield".

Sorry if this has been asked, but, how does the movie open, like destruction and find video camera, shows title cloverfield, or shows the name at all? or just starts.

I can't presume that there isn't any, because even though I was already spoiled going in, the movie sucked me in and I eventually stopped trying to look in the background of every shot for secret stuff. As far as obvious explanations go, I can't think of one. It's possible that I'm just missing something, though.

I started to answer this on the first page, but to continue...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
After the cold text open, we get some stuff with Rob and Beth a month before the monster attack (April) having a romantic morning together and planning to go to Coney Island. Then it's revealed that Rob's brother is taping over that tape to film Rob's going away party. (He puts Hud in charge of filming it after that.)

See, while there may be a secret meaning to the title "Cloverfield", I just thought that Reeves was saying that, they had decided that the site at which the film is discovered is, in fact, codenamed Cloverfield. With that, they could keep the viral nickname it had obtained, while also explaining it legitimately.

I wasn't always negative...
Just since I've heard what actually happens in the movie...since the early reviews.
I have tix to see it at Midnight on Thurs...so I can only hope that my already low expectations will not be dashed yet further.

NO SONG in the end credits, which was very...odd. I admire them for doing that because it's honestly risky, but I actually think they should've had one in there. Picture leaving a movie that has a rather sad ending with virtual silence over the end credits. It's a weird experience.

there was a song. ROAR! is the cloverfield overture and it is very very good. obvously you either have not seen it or litterally ran out of the theater.

Hello, lurker coming out of the woodworks. My gf and I went to the prescreen in Vegas Tues. night.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I also confirm there was ending music. And that it is indeed ROAR! Cloverfield Overture. I don't know if anyone else noticed but there was a whisper at the end, the both of us are not quite sure what it said or if it was even worth listening too. Anyone else catch it?

How does the movie start? Is there any credits in the end? A song in the end credits? A whisper? Very Happy

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Movie starts similar to the "Case Designate" trailer open, but it's not exactly that -- the text is spread across a few different "pages," and the actual movie starts off with the standard color bars you'd see at the front of an old VHS. Not much to tell on that, really.

That is very odd that you didnt hear a song during the end credits, I most DEFINITELY did hear a song during the entire credit sequence. Can the screenings possibly be different?
