[SPOILER] Why didn't the monster...

...leave Manhattan?

After seeing the movie, My biggest question is why didn't the monster run when being attacked? And by run I dont mean walk around Manhattan for 7 hours merely avoiding tank fire and stealth bombers. I mean get off Manhattan island completely? I think most of us assume he swam to Manhattan even though he doesn't seem very aquatic, like no webbing in between claws and whatnot. The parasites didn't seem all that aquatic either for that matter. Why didn't it leave? Was Manhattan it's home long ago? Did it return to spawn? I just dont get why it stayed for attack after attack? If it was here all along but in hiding then obviously it would know how to hide to avoid attack. But it didn't hide? Any other theories? Also, I wonder if the thing falling from the sky and splashing into the ocean was a beacon of some sort which brought the monster to Manhattan? There are so many possibilities but the biggest blaring oddity in my mind is why didnt it hide or run? Oh and by the way, I absolutely loved this movie and cant wait to see it again. Wink

Tagging spoiler and retitling thread to de-spoiler it. Please don't title your thread with spoiler info - before seeing the film we don't know the monster DOESN'T leave Manhattan. For that matter, we're not even sure how far it got after seeing it. - E

Good thing he wasn't in New York in October. That would have been brutal seeing the Yankees kick ass in the season then blow in October.

I hate the Yankees, I hate every team from New York. I'm an Angels fan and a *gasp* Blue Jays fan. And the Jays really suck.

I think MGP didn't know that leaving the island would mean the assault would stop. In fact, it probably wouldn't - once it put some hurt on the city I don't think the military was going to chance it coming back if it didn't have to.

Notice also that MGP attacked the bridge from mid-river. That didn't seem to make any changes in his responses or how the military was responding.

Possibly with the tall buildings it was avoiding some gunfire running between them. Off the island in a regular neighborhood it would be much more "out in the open" so to speak.
