The text on the page is in cyrillic, so I'm guessing it's Russian (great, another language for me to develop fluency in). I'll see what I can do about a translation after I download a cyrillic font.
Laz, I'm sure you already know this, but.......if you go to http://babelfish.altavista.com/ you can use the world keyboard to click in the correct letters in Russian.

Googling on the 1st comment brings up http://www.geocities.com/zcphysicsms/chap12.htm
It appears that the note has been lifted from the following
Quote:
To set up the time travel paradox we have to accelerate one end of the wormhole. This sets up an intrinsic asymmetry between the history of each wormhole entrance. As a result if communication is instantaneous from entrance A to entrance B according to an observer at rest at entrance A, the the asymmetry in the history of the two entrances may produce an asymmetry in the result for a signal traveling from B to A. In that case communication from B to A through the wormhole may not be instantaneous according to an observer at rest with respect to B at all . Simultaneity may become direction dependent. For example, looking through the wormhole from A at B, the earth frame may observe the same ship clock readout as observing it without looking through the wormhole. Whereas looking through the wormhole from B to A, the ship observer may observe a time on earth's clock advanced from the time observed looking along another path.
Phew!!!

Blah.. started trying to translate that stuff.. obviously the first note gets in the way of the paragraph. But I translated the line that is to the left of the second note as:
"the frequency of resonance is given:"
So.. I don't know if they actually want us to translate all of the stuff. It does seem as though the Russian has to do with Space/Time stuff those notes have led us to. And one of the first messages we had from Jake mentioned that 'the project' has been worked on since the Cold War. Again.. if I don't make sense, I'm just a silly newbie
(I should probably register, too)

I'll tell you one thing....there are WAY too many people obsessed with pi. Google for pi 150th digit(shudder).

obesessed bah.
For extra credit in my FST(Function Statistics and Trigonometry) class i once memorized Pi, e, and square root of 2 out to 200 places each

the russian text I had a friend on the MUD I play take a look at the jpg, here what he translated the text as
Dargaard tells you: now high frequent electromagnetic area (text is
missing)stimulating. this (text missing) maxwell and (text missing)
conditions. this exists in (text missing) in same frequency (missing) types
can independantly be stimulated
Dargaard tells you: after three dots. Resonance frequency is given as:
formula follows
Dargaard tells you: in first block of text it also goes ( cji (or smth like
that) - cant_recognize_word function of first order, n - normalized radius)

Dargaard I'd assume Dargaard is some philospher/scientist I've never heard of. Googling Dargaard just seems to bring up a lot of music websites.
I've also been trying different combinations of the movies we've found, and the characters in them, but with no luck, thinking that maybe it was a red herring. We still have the /hackers/theprincessbride/ directory with nothing and the /hackers/fezzik/ with nothing.
This stuff is confusing. And we still haven't solved the earn.txt puzzle.

No, Dargaard is the name of the player who translated the text for me, he's not part of the game

Nice call on the "A Bit" title! That'll stop me from wasting my time. Most of the other pages that don't lead to the turgenev1.jpg have the same title and I was curious as to why.
And, the Dargaard mystery is also solved for me
Do I get a trout yet ?

1. The two default games that come with Windows are Minesweeper and Solitaire
2. Reggie emails us as user "minesweeper"
3. Is he suggesting something about Solitaire Encryption? I tried messing around with earn.txt and solitaire, but got nowhere. Of course, this goes back to the fact that we've established the 625-char string to be random, so it doesn't appear it could be any type of encryption method. But when I saw the minesweeper email I couldn't help but think of solitaire...
The purpose of minesweeper is the clear the board.... In a 25x25 grid for minesweeper, how many mines will there be?
