Stumbled onto this site recently, lots of interesting stuff. I work in the film industry and was thinking of becoming a regular until I saw this post.
I realize that it's frustrating to see the same topic posted about repeatedly. That doesn't mean it's OK to go after the offenders in the manner that you guys did in this post. As I was registering I came across something that you might want to think about.

These forums are a community; users should respect the other participants in this community. In general, users should conduct themselves in respectful, appropriate ways that encourage inclusion and cooperation. Our users express a diverse range of opinion and knowledge, and disagreements can (and should) be handled in civilized ways.

Granted, there is a link stickied about posting guidelines which highlights using the search function before making any posts. But as OliMango so eloquently stated in this post

http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=22540

OliMango : Stickied posts are never seen or read, cause people know they're too long and boring.

Great attitude, now I see a trend. As did the OP of that particular post.

Try to remember that there are living people on the other side of a post. Instead of calling new posters names and being abusive you can simply point them in the direction of the search function and leave the thread. There is no need to act like an angst ridden, socially inept troglodyte.

I saw the film today and the credits do credit using footage from "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms", but I don't recall where.

So just cut this guy some slack.

Surely, now the movie's been seen (at least by some lucky people) there is now an opportunity to compare it to 'Beast'? So this thread is entirely relevant and doesn't smell remotely of fish.
I met the Beast once (really) and he was a fine creature...

Well said Jook and zandozan.

This is not a competition.
There's forums out there which actively discourage bumping old threads, so it's not as simple as it might seem to people.

The OP was making a point about the connection with what we know about the monster being asleep for a long time, which hasn't had its own thread as far as I know. And yes, there are rumours of another nod to The Beast from 20000 fathoms within the movie, but I've got no idea what that is.

I brought it up, many others have brought it up, and people in this post are bringing it up, you're jerks, assholes, stick up the butt elitist pricks who do not make good first impressions. Who would want to be a part of a community that treats people like trash?

These forums need better moderation cause it is obvious that the community can't moderate itself.

Note that most of the people in this thread (or for that matter, in this entire general section) joined only within a few months ago. I don't think it's the community per se, but rather the type of people who've been attracted to the forums as a result of the subject of this particular ARG.

The credits said Images Used. "Fathoms" and "Godzilla" but the movie was so fast pace.you were trying to concentrate on stuff in the background but the movie just draws you in and easily miss it.

Yeah, you're right, I was just a bit heated because it seems like every time someone new post they're being flamed for no reason.

I agree...what the hell guys. The guy was being cool about it and I for one must have missed the older threads about Beast, so I appreciated the post. If you get angry that fast at someone over something that foolish, you guys are spending too much time on a forum.

1) Beast from 20000 Fathoms is the inspiration for almost EVERY big mutated thing trashing city movie. Some people don't realize it came before Godzilla even. Give the guy a little credit for at least noticing.

2) For crying out loud, people, there's no need to be snippy or rude. This forum is churning HARD right now, so it's hard to keep up. So what if someone points out something obvious? Big movie = new posters and YES some of them are going to break etiquette. You can either be mature and help them become better posters, or you can be rude and drive them and about 10 lurkers away.

3) TROUT was designed as a non-mean way to point out something had already been said before. It's not supposed to be hateful, because that's what people were doing before. Don't mix the two, or you ruin what TROUT was supposed to be.
