No you aren't. I haven't said anything because I don't want to be a downer but it's a dumb looking monster.

The humanoid musculature and skin doesn't seem very tough looking.
The pointy head and floppy wrists are really stupid looking.
It looks like something out of "Clash of the Titans" basically and not in a fun, campy way. Godzilla would finish this guy off before breakfast.

I think the monster looks a little lame. Maybe after I see the movie I will change my mind.

Monster in the trailer, what about the back (shell)

How does this picture from the movie compare with the turtle
shell we see in the trailer?? was the trailer version
of the monster another piece of bull?

After hearing various descriptions, I didn't think I'd be saying this -- but I'm really pretty pleased with how it looks. From this clip, anyway. There's something very "wrong" about it that's enhanced by the human resemblance.

It kind of has more of that fucked up mutant look than it does the whole Godzilla I'm-in-a-big-rubber-suit-BUT-SERIOUSLY-IMMA-EAT-YOU-BLARRRR...thing.

The flaps on the side of its head read more like gills to me, with the way they move. If you've ever lifted up a fish's gill flaps and seen the red plated stuff in there. External gills crossed with lungs, maybe.

I thought of gills too. It makes sense, since the monster has lived in the ocean for a while.

There's one thing I want to ask the board about MGP, mainly because I can't draw an adequate conclusion myself -

Does it seem to anyone who's watched it that MGP hates mankind, and is acting out of pure hatred for our species?

I say this because a lot of the damage he seems to cause isn't Godzilla-esque "It got in my way" damage - it appears very planned and precise. Take for example, him smashing the Brooklyn Bridge with his tail, or his deliberately picking up a car and destroying a military blockade with it, or his lunging at the helicopter trying to get away shortly after being bombed, or when he looks at Hud and you see a tinge of disgust in his facial features. Does anyone agree that MGP isn't here out of any external motivation, but just because he hates us all?

I liked the movie in general, but I thought the monster design was not a very good one. It's just too...simple, I guess. It needed more detail, maybe (it seemed like too much of it was just flat, nothin' goin' on, surface), the extra arms added to the underside were a nice touch, but I don't think they went far enough. Many of the fan art images I've seen (even the ones based on descriptions from the movie) were preferable to the actual thing.

I think a large part of that was probably the budget. It was probably cheaper to do the CGI if the monster wasn't all that complex/detailed. Also, I thought the CGI wasn't all that good. Admittedly, CGI very rarely looks real/good (first rex scene in Jurassic Park, tripods in War of the Worlds), but in this movie I expected it to be decent since the monster is the main draw. The arthropod things were okay, though.

Did anyone else think the explosion at the beginning was very CGI-looking as well? (Obviously, it was CGI, but you know what I mean...)

Also, would anyone have preferred computer-enhanced stop-motion? Or even regular stop-motion? I know I would've (think Harryhausen+Cloverfield.....aw, yeah, that would be kickin').

Having been to the theater and seen this, the only remaining gif doesn't do justice to what you actually see on the screen.

I think those red apparatus are part of it's breathing, they move like that and I recall the sound of breathing going with them. I'd say our friend is equipped to be fully amphibious, and it's lungs and gill structures may be such a compromise that it's got those flapping bits it has to move around to get sufficient gas transfer. I need to research, but I think lungfish work in a similar fashion, with their gill type vessels in a more lung-like structure and extending outwards towards the usual gill cases. I could be wrong, but even if a lungfish doesn't work like that, I think MGP basically does.

One thing for sure, it's not really like anything we've seen before. It's also really massive. Sorry, I think Godzilla would loose - but might at least be able to put real hurt to MGP before he did.

I think the Ray harryhausen style is brilliant, but its a bit dated IMHO, Jurassic park was going to be stop motion until Speilberg saw how good CGI was.

The stop motion technique just isnt as believable as CGI, but it is brilliant

EDIT: I dont think that they would be able to get some of the same camera angles with this style either

Hi there. that was sad that the Gif was removed. I have an request to Gwaka.

Gwaka, can you please upload the original file (not Gif) somewhere?

The Gif image was moving too fast. You can maybe also upload some jpgs of it (if you have some)

That would be so freaking awesome, man.

Oh, by the way, i saw the movie yesterday in Australia and enjoyed it quite alot. The parasite creatures were so scary.

It was cool and scary at the same time when hud got eaten. And, boy was the creature awesome or what?

WO-Hoooooo!!!!!!!!!!

The red things on its head was likely some kind of gills (I think). Even the creature eyes were scary LOL.

Well, I've got a theory that's about as solid as wet toilet paper but it would tie the viral story to the movie a bit better. It all revolves around Sea Bed Nectar and its unique reaction when ingested/absorbed. Look at what a small dose did to Jamie in a very short amount of time. She got hyper and then angry. REALLY angry. But she stayed focused on a target of her anger...Teddy.

One could say that SBN in its pure unfrozen state causes a burst of adrenaline and whatever controls agression. When it's frozen, it doesn't metabolize so quickly so the result is more of a happy buzz. However, the bottom of the ocean may be cold, but it's not freezing cold. So, the SBN from there is in its "raw' state.

Now, imagine something soaked in it for a while. Say a couple thousand years of hibernation of inhaling the stuff. Then it gets woke up by drilling noise and/or a satellite chunk hitting it in the head. It wouldn't be just a matter of "ouch" and go back to hibernating. It would wake up mad as a wet cat and look for something to trash. After trashing that, it would look for more. And more, and more.

Jamie's actions were not random. They were agressive and deliberate. Sure, some of it was a bit goofy, but it was also somewhat scary. If MGP has a moderate amount of intelligence (enough to plan out an attack), it's not a far stretch to say the SBN hopped him up into a frenzy and he took it out on Chuai and NYC and anything else in between.

Yeah, I got no proof for it. Like I said, it's just a theory I thought up in the shower this morning. It was the best thing I could come up with for explaining WHY we were shown Jamie's reaction, WHY the Chuai station was the first target (they weren't there for oil so it had to be SBN) and WHY the SBN was such a big deal in the first place.

Well Played

Finally, a coherent, well thought out, and completely feasible theory. Good job, I support the sleeping in the SBD theory...
