Cloverfield MGP thoughts

Saw it yesterday early at a matinee (1:30) with only about 12 other people. You could still feel the tension when MGP is seen. It totally blew my expectations, which, after following the story since July 5th, were pretty farkin' high. None of the drawings, pictures, or anything could prepare you for what you see. It's done very well. I agree with many others, a fantastic experience. Not just another monster movie from the lame old perspective of the military. I look forward to seeing more.

The best sequence of the film was the crossfire. Rob, Marlena and Lily on one side pointing up at the monster in awe and Hud on the other side, dazed and confused. Looking on as hopeless military charge forth and fire whatever weaponry they possess. A truly brilliant exercise in terrifying imagery as well as character development and action.

MGP looked awesome and like it has been said nothing what I thought he would look like or act like. THe movie overall the more I think about it the more I like it. Hud's comments where great and they did a really good job with the handy cam idea.

But MGP makes this movie awesome, the bipedal element was awesome. I was alittle tipsy in the theater (i started singing the star trek theme song ok) but when the reporter started asking what was falling off MGP I yelled LITTLEMONSTERS.

I can't get how anyone think Clover is a good nickname for MGP after seeing the monster the name actually stick better for him then I thought before.

The part that got me is when he gets hit by the Stealth Bomber and attempts to break his fall by swing his hand out in front but ends up just hitting a building instead. That and the roaring towards the end, where you can hear that it's in pain. I felt more empathy for it than I did for Marlena, although I think that's to be expected, she should have just had on a red shirt.

I Really liked it's design. I thought it's movement and way it acted gave the impression of it could be anywhere at anytime. I think it was a giant hermit crab personally.

Just think if this sucker was 10,000 years old. I know, the lungs on the head don't make sense. It's a movie.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Mr.mania was talking about the battle scene when they were on opposite sides of the street. Methinks:

That was a very well done sequence, you can't help but connect their plight with the plight of civilians during war. One of the few times I actually liked the characters (I don't think they were meant to be entirely likable -- Jason said it to Rob better than I can here: "you're kind of a douchebag") Smile

This would point to a strong skeletal structure, or none at all.
Hardly relates to skin.

The monster is awesome, but for a little off topic, why whould MGP eat Deep Sea Nectar when it has huge fangs, it doesn't make sence...Mabey some other monster makes Deep Sea Nectar and will do battle with MGP next time.

Well see, there's two ways I look at it.
If kaitei no mitsu just sits on the ocean floor like the methane ice does, he'd get doses of it in his mouthfulls of prey. It's clear he doesn't 'peel' his meals, he just chomps.
If kaitei no mitsu is supposed to be something they have to drill for, it could've been leaked into the area where MGP was and thus been incidentally ingested. This would make sense as to why it might change our beast into the thing it is.

After seeing our hexapedal prehensile tailed friend again, I'm even more impressed.

holy crap...

it just hit me. Remember that satirical review where the guy called it...

"A wingless, de-horned Pterodactyl."...

He wasnt too far from the truth. Look at the "arm" shape inside the wing.

He may have been pullin our leg, but I think he was telling the truth in some areas as well.
