What if these 5 strands of 10 are shorthand writing of some sort?
Just for clarification, they didn't come like that....could just as easily be 10 strings of 5....or 2 strings of 25. I just found it interesting that the numbers were in strings of 10, and the CAPS divide evenly into that.

Hmmm. It's somewhat similiar to the lines needed to decode caretaker's first e-mail.

Another thing I noticed when looking at the jpg as text was a string of semicolons that happens to 50 long, not including the one before the (, which happens to be the number of capital letters in the memo.

coincidence?

pad encryption I found this utility at:
http://www.vidwest.com/otp/
It seems it may apply, however I am not sure whether we should encrypt or decrypt... I'll try a couple things and let you know.

Stupid question time I have a really stupid question, because I don't understand the maniplulation process.... So I am prepared to be laughed at for even suggesting it
http://cfrg.us/mirror/pad.jpg
Has anyone tried to De-steg it... I mean I know it is a "white" picture" so does that mean that nothing will show up?
***EDIT***
Stupid suggestion number 2
use the symbols from the plain text file on the mirror page to give us the numbers from The Journey like Ehsan did with the e-mail.
then we would end up with more url's (in 202.15.145 format - I want to call it DNS, but that is probably the wrong term)?

I looked at the jpeg in a hex editor, and based on this page everything after PAD 1581051 is part of the file format. Back to square one.

And i ran it through JSeek/JHide.. and it didnt find any hidden next.. It says the picture hasnt been manulipited..
So we both were on the right path.

Hmmm... good idea.
And thanks Reid and Duluoz for looking at the pad jpeg. I feel better that we are following proper proceedures
1. Always look at the source code
2. always de-steg picture files

Right after we got the memo I pulled up the HCRDmemo.gif in a text editor and there's nothing there - standard .gif file. However, I have not tried using de-stegging software so that is an exercise for the reader, or I'll do it once I get off work...

Random thoughts In the HCRD memo, the last line is PAD 1581051 2003 SEP 02. I just realized that 1,5,8,10 and 51 are unique numbers that appear in the pad. Could this be significant? Something about their order, or where they appear on the pad, maybe? Just some late-afternoon ramblings.
