Intense pleasure Very Happy

This was solved by spending way to much time Googling about "Mannerist Prague" "Hermes Trismegistus" and Giuseppe Arcimboldo's method only to be slapped in the face by the Twisted Evil PM TimeHunt:

You can follow the "Earth" thread to find my reasoning.

Honestly, thanx for the nudge Dan Laughing

Upon entering the airlock from the Earth Gateway, you are presented with what looks to be an old map. There are two links - one on each side. The one on the left is on the North American continent near the dinosaur, the right is on the African continent.

North America produces a Rubic's cube type crossword puzzle thing that just intimidated the hell out of me. Shocked

/me goes to check out Africa

/me decides she is not a worthy puzzle solver Laughing

Africa is a grid of sorts. There are 8 icons to the right of the grid, which each produce 8 additional icons of their own.

When an icon is clicked and dragged to the grid, it in turn morphs to a small grid with red dots. Confused

*sigh*

here we go again!

Africa

I solved the Earth gateway yesterday afternoon, and haven't gotten much further. I can tell you that the grid game you saw on Africa is a version of Conway's Game of Life.

Basically what's happening is, during each "round", each cell looks around to see how many cells are immediately adjacent (including corners). If the cell has 1 or less neighbors, or more than 3, it dies/gets turned off. The cell survives if it has 2 or 3 neighbors. If an empty cell has 3 neighbors, it becomes alive/gets turned on.

This is a VERY popular game for computer nerds, so googling will find you about a hojillion links and simulators. I haven't watched TimeHunt's version closely enough to determine if it's using the standard rules.

My theory is that if we know the correct pieces to place on the board, the simulator will run and result in a pattern that is somehow another clue. I don't think it's possible to have Life patterns end up in words, they usually end up in little patches of small stable groups, or one big mess that eventually dies off.
