Smaller Creatures

I've been reading that it's plausible that the big boy was resistant to most attacks because he was a deep sea creature and his skin had to be something wicked due to the high pressure, and his size could also be attributed to the fact that supposedly the deeper you get in the ocean, the bigger creatures get.

say we go with this

1) why were the smaller ones able to be smacked with a hatchet and die. shouldn't they be highly resistant to force to?

2) wouldn't the high pressure to lower pressure cause some sort of problems for the creature?

and 3) are the little guys a completely separate species?

i know a lot of this stuff can be just, you know, movie inconsistencies, but it just interested me

im kind of new so if this stuff has been discussed or answered already try and go easy on me

One,Well, we have no clue as to where the creature came from. Underwater or to infinity and beyond. Neutral If it came from underwater and why the smaller ones could be killed so easily, well, 1, their size, and 2..lets just say...Shrimp.
