[INFO] Marcus Theatres/Cinemas=NO CLOVERFIELD Opening! Sorry for those who were residing near these theatres!(Ufortunately its a Walking Distance to my place) .. A Big thumbs down! This will definitely affect Box Office Opening record for Cloverfield!
MARCUS THEATRES WILL NOT SHOW CLOVERFIELD
Marcus Theatres Corp. is again at odds with Paramount Pictures after failing to reach an agreement with the film distributor on the Friday release of "Cloverfield."
The impasse marks the second time in a month that Marcus locations will not show a major motion picture on its opening release date because it could not reach an agreement with Paramount on a price to moviegoers. This time, the film is the J.J. Abrams-produced modern-day monster film "Cloverfield," which is opening nationwide on Friday.
"Our negotiations with this film distributor have again reached an impasse," said Bruce Olson, president of Marcus Theatres. "Marcus Theatres did not show 'Sweeney Todd' on its first run availability date because acceptable terms could not be negotiated and now we will not be exhibiting 'Cloverfield' at any of our locations for similar reasons."
Marcus could not reach an agreement with Paramount to show "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street," when it opened Dec. 21. An agreement was reached later, and the Johnny Depp film began running at 15 Marcus locations Jan. 11.
Olson said the company still hopes to reach an agreement with Paramount at a later date.
Marcus Theatres is a division of Marcus Corp. (NYSE: MCS) in Milwaukee. The seventh-largest theatre circuit in the country, Marcus owns or operates 594 screens at 49 locations in Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Ohio, North Dakota and Iowa.

Oh No! The 7th largest theatre chain in the U.S.!
Does kinda suck. But...they only have 50 theatres, it shouldn't dent opening box office numbers too much, right?

Figure this eh?
9$ per ticket*10 showings on opening day*50 theatre locations*aprox. 125 people per showing(est.)=
$562250
Maybe dent it, tops.

WTF - all of the theaters in my town are owned by Marcus. Every time a group comes in and buys the theaters from the previous owners things take another turn for the worse. Gah! Now I'll have to drive at least 20 miles to see it. I was hoping to take a long lunch from work and catch it at the theater a mile a way. Damn you Marcus!!!!

Frankly I agree with the theater owners here. I'm sure that the studio is trying to get blockbuster numbers for opening weekend (80%) because Sweeney Todd had big names and Cloverfield has big hype. Neither guarantees big box office especially as both were low budget films.
Sweeney Todd has done 50 million to date and there isn't much reason to believe Cloverfield will do much more till the numbers are actually in.
Cloverfield could open big, 25-30 million and drop like a stone the next week.
I think the studio shouldn't ask the theater to pay for the studio's gamble.
The theater owner would make more money running an extra screen of one of the movies that came out at Christmas then give 80% to Paramount to open Cloverfield.

Marcus = Tagruato This really sucks for me and I saw it coming but hoped it wouldn't ! I live in Milwaukee so there are two theaters showing it in all of SE Wisco...To hell with Marcus! They must have ties to Tagruato.

With your computation, it makes sense, why Cloverfield didnt reach $50million in its opening
