 		That last post got me to thinking. What if the military actually disposed of our poor Marlena. Maybe the Military already knew the horrors that Marlena had in store and gave the "Ole Yeller" treatment. Or maybe they knew that it was easier to kill the host that deal with the chest popping monster that spawned from her.

I do not believe any of this but, as Mister Rogers says, it is fun to pretend

Also, when they were wheeling the exploded soldier, someone said, "Another bite victim." THAT'S how we know what happens to you when you get bitten. The medics knew that, that's why they reacted so immediately to Marlena. Also, you want to spare civilians any more trauma, as well as the above-mentioned blood-borne diseases (including the unknown one that may possibly be there from the giant crotch crickets-love that name).

And Fignut is correct-MGP is a baby. The GCCs are parasites and are a separate entity from MGP - they just happened to come along for the ride when MGP surfaced. I did notice taht MGP's tail looked like a tadpole's tail, so the the baby thing really fits. Again, if he's the baby, where's the Mama and Daddy? Then again, do we REALLY want to know? How big would THEY be?! But that's another thread.....

 		I kind of speculate that when you get bit by a parasite, that your red blood cell count starts to multiply. Very slowly at first. Then later once your body starts to get too full, you begin crying blood to expell it and once than it starts multipling rapidly until BOOM!!! Which would explain all the blood on the curtain and not much other substances.

Again, the problem is: where does she get the extra matter to create the red blood cells?

Also, a dramatic rise in your cell count wouldn't cause you to explode - it would cause your blood to clot. An increase in plasma could cause you to explode, I suppose.

 		im mad that she exploded Evil or Very Mad but i do wonder what coould have made this happen, i mean what would make her explode? I hope we fid out.

What about an inability to have the blood clot in any way? Something in the venom liquifies the body for digestion through the blood ( i know this was mentioned before when someone brought up how spider's feed).

If it liquified all the bones and organs she would swell quite a bit, but it would liquify the skin well before she was ripe enough to burst.

Ew.

The more I think about it, the more I agree with earlier posts that it was seriously bad gas from some process.

Half-serious question: can we hear any flatulance as she expands?

There isn't enough blood in the human body, whether it's clotting or not, to cause the body to expand and subsequently explode. Tissue or blood gasification seems to be the only reasonable explanation. Perhaps with some kind of threshold vector? Meaning 'after x accumulates, then y happens'. It's the only thing that makes sense.

 		Are the enzymes or whatever it was in the bite is the sea nectar? Was Tagruato harvesting sea nectar from the parasites, diluting it down, then selling it as Slusho?

 		Could have been a huge hurl... but my first impression was that Marlena exploded.

Lots of good theories in this thread... like the spider bite theory most. Also, Ebola will cause massive hemorrhaging, as do some types of venom that dissolve tissue such as a spider's venom. This would explain some of the blood seeping from Marlena's eyes, etc.

As for the adding of mass to cause an explosion... gas is as good a theory as any. Could be like a fermentation process from whatever virus or venom that was injected into her system from the bite that reacted with blood, or other fluids/tissues.

Personally, I don't buy the "hatching babies" theory, though there have been some good arguments for it here.

 		Most of what I've thought has been mentioned, but when they're wheeling in the military bite victim, his "exploded" body looks a lot cleaner and less...well...I dunno.

If you look at the scene where Marlena is taken behind the curtain...she inflates. A ridiculous amount, even. And then comes the blood splatter.
Although the blood splatter does not seem to be as great as it should be if her entire midsection popped, it looks to match up with...well, the wound from the soldier being carted in. Although if you notice, his ribs are intact and not burst out, and I believe I saw some intestine hanging out, which would support the whole gastro-whatever theory.

It seems that when you pop, it's mainly your gut. The area with all the intestines.

This is what I was thinking. I thought Slusho was supposed to increase soft body tissue. Maybe a concentrated form in the parasites does it on a much larger scale.

 		Nah, Slusho! is just an energy drink. The parasites have some sort of "pop your body like a zit" catalyst.
