Just for kicks, I was curious.

What I found stationed at Fort Hamilton doesn't scream of a lot of tank type vehicles--A1's in particular--hummers armed with rocket launchers and so on.

"At present, the United States Army Fort Hamilton Garrison is the home of the New York City Recruiting Battalion, the Military Entrance Processing Station, the North Atlantic Division Headquarters of the US Army Corps of Engineers, the 1179th Transportation Brigade and the 722nd Aeromedical Staging Squadron.  		EVERYONE I know in the military said that unless they knew ahead of time, theres NO FKN WAY that we would have that kind of military support in the city that quick. And they were adamant about it.

What if they had one day? Or twelve hours? Or four hours? Or two? It's hard to believe that this thing swam up onto the shore without any radar detection, and 1-18-08.com implies that some government bombed the hell out of something in the ocean, though time and place aren't known. Assuming it was before the night of the attack, and the American government attacking, they knew at least a little beforehand. Even if the attack in that picture is what's seen from Rob's roof, that means the government knew enough to get military out into the ocean to break some ass.

How much time would be needed to get the same military response into the city? A few hours? Because we sort of have to assume we have at least some heads up.

 		I'm sure we can agree the army wasn't just strolling down the road with tanks and bazookas and all of a sudden was like, "Oh shit look at that big fuckin monster, let's kill it" ... "Hell, it's good we were here with these weapons".

They had to know something ahead of time.

 		I can't believe you guys are going this in depth about an argument over the response time of the armed forces. It's a movie. It's called "dramatic license", look it up.

 		yea, i personally think the explosion was just from the military attacking it. theres no proof that the military wasnt already on the island before MGP attacked, just because they didnt say it on the news doesnt mean they werent. its not like the military is going to dial up all the local stations and say "Oh hey, just thought you guys would like to know that theres this 40 story tall monster coming to wipe its ass with NYC and we're at the ready to try to stop it. Just giving a heads up". So the news wouldnt know wtf is going on either, not within the first few minutes as likely.

And theres nothing that says that those helicopters flying around the SoL were all news helicopters and that happens before the explosion

There are ALOT of things you just have to chalk up to "it was needed for the movie". Anything from earth is not that indestructible, something from the deep deep oceans cant live on the surface and they wanted the movie to only cover 6 hours of time, hence full out military response in 30 minutes or less. Unless of course the Navy told everyone "we don't know what the hell it is but something sounding really strange is heading for new york city".

 		I am a bit confused as to how we got onto military response time vs. what the explosion is. I strongly doubt it was caused by the military.

Oh well, I have watched the movie a few times now and the trailers with it. The explosion does not take place in the bay. It is very obvious and that is mainly due to how the surrounding buildings light up.

It is very peculiar and we may never know what caused it.
