Hence the sometimes in the parenthetical. Cloverfield did it rather well, imo. Many movies are over the top, but simply leaving advertising out of a fictional world isn't very realistic, if that's what you're goin' for in a film.

Agreed.

I don't know if this counts as an easter egg, but when there in the subway, Rob was using a Nokia phone, and there was a banner next to him for Nokia saying "Nokia.....Connecting People".

Wasn't quite so "connecting" to the "people" he was trying to reach down there. NOKIA LIES!

Ha! Product placement. It sucks.

That would be the knee-jerk, anti-consumerism reaction, but one thing product placement can (sometimes) do is add a bit of realism to a film, we are, after all, surrounded by and inundated with advertising constantly in our society.

Yes, but there is a difference between realism, and having our faces smashed into the poop pile.

Example: If there is only one or two Nokia cell phones in the movie, and they are not made obvious, then that is ok. However, if you have a movie (not saying it's Cloverfield) that makes it a point to make everyone use a Nokia, and to make all the ads in the background about Nokia, then that is not realism, that is crap. Again, I'm not saying that Cloverfield did that.

Hence the sometimes in the parenthetical. Cloverfield did it rather well, imo. Many movies are over the top, but simply leaving advertising out of a fictional world isn't very realistic, if that's what you're goin' for in a film.

Agreed.

This might have been posted already, but I've not seen it anywhere on here. So I will post this find anyway; it may be something, it may be nothing.

So I went to see it for the third time last night. At the beginning of the film I notice that the time Rob starts filming in Beth's Dad's apartment it is 6:42 AM. Later in the film, once Jason starts filming in downtown while following Lily as she gets things for the party, you know...when he can't figure out how to work the camera. When he starts filming here, it is also 6:42 but in the evening. The only thing here that's kind of stretching it is it's only 6:42 for like a second or two, then the time changes. In the end when
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Rob and Beth are under the bridge and Rob gives his testimonial to the camera.
It is also 6:42 AM.

That means that the time of 6:42 appears 3 times, at least that I know of. This may be nothing, but I just found it kind of odd that shit just happened to be on film each of the 3 times this time occurred.

That is really weird. When do times flash on the screen? Probably when they are messing with the camera huh? I don't really remember.

Edit: oops, nevermind. You are probably basing this on clocks in the shots, and on Rob telling the time in the last scene. Right?

John 6:42 says:

And they said: Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How then saith he: I came down from heaven?

I don't get it.

Hate to change the subject, but what about the disposable cameras that were handed out at some of the midnight showing.

I mean, how could this not be a clue? One of my friends who got one said that the people handed them out insisted that he take a camera.
And there is the fact that it only had 27 pictures in it. Has anyone looked into developing them?

I know this is supposed to clues within the movie but this has just been bothering me for a long time

Whoa...completely forgot about those...howmanypictures do disposable cameras usually have? And did anyone on here even get one? Maybe you should try and get your friends off of him or something?

I never even heard about this. We need those pictures developed.

Here's something I'm curious about, but haven't had a chance to see the movie again to check it out, what subway stations were they holed up in? Anyone know? Sorry, I know this is completely irrelevant to the camera thing.

yeah i got it. 12 pictures left. My family thinks im insane taking random pictures of stuff. Either way i wont be able to get it developed until tuesday at the earliest.

Cameras usually come with 30 i think? Im not sure but 27 just seems like a really weird number to start with. I would assume even numbers
