Think of it as a playful thing that friends do. My friend Jeff and I do it all the time, its just plain fun.

However if guys do it, unless it's a competition, is a little wierd, same with girls, just awkward.

Had Beth and Rob not known each other and hooked up that scene would have been brutally awkward, but because they are best friends it just proved that just because they slept together doesn't mean that they can't still be friends.

This is just a girls POV.

I think it was just to give the characters some life.

This has to be a joke though. People are picking every single scene from the movie apart, not everything meant something! The bible had less to it then people think this movie has. Rolling Eyes

i really thinking it was very natural and seemed so non-scripted.
it was more of a leeway scene to them discussing about coney island. which we all know was the major scene of the mysterious falling object. so again, it is kinda like "something" instead of just a relationship scene.
