First off,
Play Nice.

The idea of a sequel of some sort is scary because that's when a lot of films that become a franchise (and that doesn't mean a film needs sequels to become one) have a sequel made, it's rushed or they try to make it please everyone. They often try to answer questions posed by the first film, and in a way that's very much unlike the initial film. Good sequels can be made even if that's not usually how it turns out. Aliens I feel is a good example of this, even though it does have some more information detailed than in the original Alien. After that, the franchise started to go downhill.

Another interesting example of what can happen with a franchise as sequels are put into production as a result of success and demand is Indiana Jones. After Raiders of the Lost Ark had such success, Spielberg and Lucas were pressed to create a sequel that was basically to cash in. The result was Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom. That film is still the worst of the franchise, and one that Spielberg and Lucas both have expressed regrets about rushing to market. They put the brakes on such pressure and we got Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade as a result, which was back up in caliber with the original. As you can probably tell, the forthcoming film has also been done taking time and care. Abrams is a very wise businessman and artist, and I suspect he'd be very careful not to just crank something out to cash in. As long as the studios don't get stupid and press too hard we could have a very good sequel (or prequel, or parallel account, or whatever).

Hell yeah I want a sequel!! This movie was awesome!

I was 13 yrs old when I watched most of "The Exorcist" through the fingers of my hands on my face. (Yes, I'm old. Deal with it. Cool )

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
And now, as an adult, I did the same damn thing when the monster ate Hud!

What a ride! Give me more! Very Happy
