[SPOILERS AND WHATNOT] How tough exactly is MGP?

One thing I thought about after seeing the movie... man.. how is the dude so tough? On the one hand, he looks like a whale as far as skin goes. Especially during in the Hud-chomping bit. But the dude doesn't even have a scratch. And yet, he was directly hit by all sorts of munitions, missles and bombs. Not even a knick.

Theories? I guess he could be super tough from living so deep in the ocean, but then, there are plenty of creatures that live at 8.. or even 10 thousand feet, and have soft tissues.

Did they make him unrealisticly tough? Or will some reasoning be put forth in a sequel? Or perhaps an ongoing ARG?

I can almost guarantee that we're not gonna get an answer to this... The original Godzilla was that tough. It took a damn "oxygen destroyer" [whatever that is] to kill him.

Yea, I guess it's one of those "don't question this, it just is" things. Exoskeleton? I don't think so. I couldn't see any joints or body capsules (think, like an ants head, thorax, abdoman) that would indicate that sort of structure. If you don't have seperation, and have an exoskeletons, you can't move. He looked smooth, he did not look like he had any sort of exoskeleton.

And at least Godzilla had obvious armor plating in most cases. His skin at least *looked* tough. Razz

Yea.. I guess Slusho does make you strong. ; )

I noticed in the last shot of him, before Hud gets munched... look at the leg. It looks like it has a pretty tough leathery look to it...

I thought the last bombing before "Hammerdown" knocked some protective layer off over his head thus revealing the lung looking things. Maybe be can be hurt, but it took a while for us to figure it out.

Were the lung looking things there before the last bombing?

Well, it's a huge monster, so, you can't get more "realistic" than that. hehe. And other times just led me to believe theres more then one of these, Like in the Subway, is it walking in circles over their head?

The thing was living in the bottom of the ocean.. the pressure it had to endure was immense. I have a feeling the bombings were nothing to it.

Actually, animals that live in the deepest parts of the ocean are incredibly delicate. In the same way that we couldn't possibly survive such extreme pressures, they can't survive the extreme lack of pressure. Pretty much all attempts to bring deep-sea animals to the surface to study result in them dying right away.

I second Slusho! Very Happy

Well...MGP seems to be about as tough as the Japanese Godzilla...which is probably what JJ was going for.

the way i look at it is the realtivity to size.

to put it into perspectives, when we ae bitten by a dog, it doesnt kill us. when we get burned, it still doesnt kill us. so bombs being dropped on the monster(s) is the same thing. they are too small do do any type of notable damage. sure, it may hurt the thing, but it wont do anything to stop it. however, if the military were to keep bombing it, it will do something. just like holding a flame near your skin. it hurts, but after a while, it will eventually burn through doing some damage.

just my two cents.

In the aerial shots you see that he doesn't have hard scales or plates on his back. He's got one hell of a hide though.
