 [NEW/SPEC] Possible title: "Overnight"

Sorry if this has been posted already; a quick search didn't yield anything.

I recently stumbled upon trademark #77232885, "Overnight." It was registered to Group One Productions, LLC, and Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer on July 18, 2007, and described as "motion picture, television and music production and distribution services."

The Attorney of Record for the trademark is Lori N. Boatright. She is also the Attorney of Record for "SLUSHO!," "SLUSHO! YOU CAN'T DRINK JUST SIX," and "BAD ROBOT", trademarks 77229623, 77229614, and 76340985, respectively.

I googled for "GROUP ONE PRODUCTIONS, LLC," yielding nothing. The LLC, however, is registered in the State of Delaware, formed on 11-08-2006, with its registered agent being ERESIDENTAGENT, INC (search). It's just a resident agent service. Considering there's no real information on the company, I think it's just a hollow LLC, perhaps formed to conceal the real parties involved. They only own one trademark, "overnight."

I then googled for "Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer." Jim Jackoway is an attorney, known to represent J.J. Abrams -- and happens to be the registrant for BadRobot.com. (whois search)

What are the odds that a lawyer (Jackoway) who represents Abrams would register a trademark using the attorney of record who registered Slusho (Boatright)?
Further googling shows no previous connection between Boatright and Jackoway.

Is "Overnight" really the title of the film?

As the trailer so eloquently stated, "this is going to be the best night ever..."

EDIT 1: I don't mind if you post my findings elsewhere, but please lend credit.

EDIT 2 7/31: Further sluething shows that Group One Productions was registered to do business in California by Jackoway on June 12 link

The Slusho trademark is registered to Bold Futura, LLC. The trademark registry shows the address in Santa Monica, but the California registry shows it as 1925 Century Park E., 22nd fl, LA - the same address as Jackoway. link

As I already posted, Jackoway was the original registrant for Slusho.jp (link, comment #458), but it was changed to Satoshi before the trailer was released. The guy who wrote the comment was pretty smart to run a whois 21-day search history, and they turned up (the search now shows Satoshi because its been more than 21 days ago since the change was made).

I think it's clear at this point that Abrams, Bad Robot, and Paramount are using Jackoway Tyreman Wertheimer as a cover to basically "launder" all connections to the movie.

EDIT 3 8/1: /Film and IGN have picked up on this.

I hesistated to add this to the main post, but now that this is slightly less speculative...

O-V-E-R-N-I-G-H-T = 15-22-05-18-14-09-07-08-20

Sum of the above numbers = 118 ( 1-18 ) Shocked If Cloverfield isn't Overnight, that's a big coincidence.

edited to add SPEC to tag and clarify title ("overnight" wasn't clear to me.) ~rose

Thanks! Even if "overnight" isn't the real name, it's probably in the trademark database somewhere. I don't think anyone would take the risk of making a film without securing the rights to it's name first.

I agree with you. I'm sure that Paramount wouldn't want to be sued, and it would be viewed as having "deep pockets" (having a lot of money). Paramount would not make a movie without at least owning a license to a trademark. What you've found is even more substantial.

Tahe the "LLC" off your Google search; people only use that on corporate documents, not websites.

There are a billion "Group One Productions" companies out there, it seems.

How did you happen to "stumble across" this, might I ask?

This is some pretty amazing sleuthing. If true, it also means AICN is totally wrong.

Kind of an odd name for a monster movie, though. I do think that maybe there's a bit of a zombie who-can-you-trust thing going on with Slusho infecting people... maybe it's more appropriate in that context.

Interesting, but i doubt that the name of movie is "overnight", it just doesn't feel right.

It's probably related to "Invasion", a Paramount movie in which people turn into alien zombie-slave things overnight. If they fall asleep, they are "converted", or something.

EDIT: Damn, accidental double-posting. Sorry 'bout that.

I'm curious as well. How exactly did this all start again?

I bet that the name of the movie is going to be the name of the monster. JJ wants us (US) to have our own Godzilla so he most likely will follow the same name of the movie/monster convention.

I think Harry Knowles is wrong anyway. He was wrong about the other movie posters. Also, there is already a movie in the works called "Colossus" -- it's a remake of the 1970 sci-fi classic "Colossus: The Forbin Project", and it's to be directed by Ron Howard.

Invasion is a remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, just so you know.

FYI: Paramount Pictures is registered in Delaware.

According to Google searches...

Quote:
Paramount Pictures Corporation ("Paramount") is a Delaware corporation with a principal place of business in Los Angeles, California.
