Here's some pictures I found of the "people-sucking underbelly" in action from the movie!

First, this is a clear picture of the appendage. At first, I though it was a hoof at the end:

This second picture shows the appendage reaching down to the ground:

The final picture shows the appendage carrying a person:

My theory is that the ends of the appendages have something similar to an elephant's trunk to grasp things from the sea floor and in this case, people.

I understand that Abrams/Reeves wanted to capture the human emotion of the characters in the time of chaos to juxapose 9/11 emotion but...

1. We all (most) want to know about the Monster more than the background information on the characters (i.e. beth and rob)
2. Unless their is a sequel/prequel, what is the point of developing a monster with details that do not surface in the film? (Besides keeping the ARG going)

i think that there are a lot of details regarding MGP that didn't come out in the movie, and will eventually come to light with the ARG.

ps: if i were marlena, i wouldnt even bother telling any1 anything, i would have been half way to Jersey. i don't think anyone would take the time to describe a precise situation with all the chaos going around them. She wouldn;t even take the time to record a testimonial for Rob, and she was clearly by herself and bored..
