His name is Anthony Vitale. Check out the interview with him here: http://trekmovie.com/2008/01/21/teaser-welder-talks-trek/

Yeah!! Even on my POS dial-up connection I got to see the flash of the interior corridor. I am going to be all over this one.

NCC-1701

The NCC-1701 also known as the USS Enterprise was a ship used in the Star Trek episodes and movies. There is a wikipedia article about it here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Enterprise_NCC-1701

I'm guessing the videos on the NCC-1701 site as well as the mini trailer are all clips of the NCC-1701 being built. Other then that, I don't know what it may mean. I have heard that the new movie (Star Trek XI) may be somewhat of a prequel.

Hopefully that helps in some way!

in addition to Izateddy's post, I found a plot synopsis for the movie on IMDB.com, although it's speculation at most:

Quote:
The film explores the origins of James T. Kirk, Spock and the crew of the USS Enterprise from the original "Star Trek" series and how these iconic characters came together. According to rumors, the story involves an elder Spock (Nimoy) and a group of Romulans (led by Nero, played by Bana) being transplanted into the past where Spock must prevent the Romulans from irreparably damaging the timeline. To do so, he will have to enlist the assistance of his younger self (Quinto).

I know IMDB.com has had the reputation in the past for creating incredibly ridiculous rumors, but it's something to think about.

I'm thinking this seems more viral than ARG. Even though it has an argish element to it (fixing the cameras, enigmatic numbers, etc), it's missing a component. Obviously anything I say this early on is pure speculation, but the cams aren't showing anything that we haven't already seen in the teaser trailer (quite frankly, it shows a lot less than is already available to the general public). Usually an ARG baits you with something like, "Here's a little secret and if you want more, follow me down the rabbithole" (paraphrase as you will). This gives you nothing new and actually insults you by trying to agonize over images that have already been readily available (just showing them in a different way to seem more puzzling).

I'll be keeping an eye on this one, but I don't expect much from it. I really hope I'm wrong (I hope I hope I hope) Wink

Thats wrong. You got to see the first picture ever of the interior of the new Enterprise.

In response to Cleptomanx's comment about this being viral instead of ARG, those lines are being blurred more with every promotional campaign created. ARGs in the 'purer' sense have often been used to promote something in a viral sense, interaction is the only thing that's seperated them from the original 'pure' concept of a viral campaign. Consider the 'first ARG' The Beast. It existed solely to promote a film, A.I., and spread virally.

I am curious just how much interaction we'll be provided here. If Cloverfield is any indication, this initial exposure is going to be slow to move forward, but later will become active to the point of almost being lost in the furor over the conventional marketing of the film.

I think the synopsis from IMDB is quite plausible, except that it largely follows the formula used in a previous Star Trek film too closely, First Contact. I'm not sure Abrams would want to do that, because he seems to prefer originality and the Star Trek fans would probably see it as a cop out.

yeah IAWTC

Interaction is a key component, otherwise it's a periodic story told over multiple media and time. ARG is a buzz word now in the marketing world, so we need to be careful how we use it. Some think we should give up on it, others think we need to 'reclaim' it, as it were. So far I've only referred to this one as a (viral) promotional campaign. There's really nothing argish at all about it (yet? maybe?). As for "extended" versus "alternate", a distinction I tend to draw is whether the ARG element can stand on its own, or if it needs to be combined with the initial IP media to get the full experience. The Beast was essentially self-contained. ILB likewise, even Last Call Poker. Many grassroots ARGs are entirely self-contained, from the smaller independent scale to larger projects like Eldritch Errors. Campaigns such as TLE, Regenesis, and Heroes are clear extensions of the shows, while Transformers, Cloverfield, Batman, and others are very much related to the source by topic and through reference though not really tied to it in existence (mainly since the source doesn't exist yet by its own rigtht).

Anyway, getting off-topic for the ST thread.
Chaotic Fiction is where it's at these days though Wink

So far this site is very reminiscent of the Transformers security cameras at Sector Seven... Smile

Plus, for all we know, Abrams could be working with a different transmedia marketing firm on this one than with Cloverfield. So though it may still be under the Abrams label, the experience could be vastly different.

Well at least with this I know something about the genre beforehand...

Am I missing something here? I can only seem to get three of the four videos, and don't have any tuning options for the one on the bottom left (it's always "offline"). Someone mentioned hitting "refresh"; I don't have a refresh link that I can see anywhere, and a browser refresh resets everything.

*EDIT*
Bah... never mind. I cheated.

yeah I've checked the flash source and there's nothing special there at all - just the videos and the corridor. I even checked the greenish static background on the sliders to see if it might form an image, and no luck...

I swear I can see numbers and letters on the fourth green slider, can't make anything out though -- anyone else see anything?

It sounds like most people think this may only be viral, although I'm hoping for an ARG. Either way I have a few other things I've noticed.

The symbol that shows up under the mini trailer on the official site, and the smaller symbol that shows up at the top of the NCC-1701 site between where it says "Shipyard" and "NCC-1701" is the same. It is the mission patch from the USS Enterprise NCC-1701. There is some good info about the ship and patch here:

http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/USS_Enterprise_%28NCC-1701%29

Although there doesn't seem to be any new "leads" from this, it definitely helps to solidify the theory that this is a prequel. The "Under Construction" theme with the text at the end of the teaser trailer and on the movies main page that lead us all to this game. The "SHIPYARD" text on the NCC-1701 page, as well as movies of something under construction. Another hint that this may be a prequel, is the fact that IMDB and the Star Trek (Movie) Wiki both talk about how William Shatner was not asked to be in the movie because he was too old, and they needed a younger Capitan Kirk.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek_film
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0796366/

This last link tells everything you could ever want to know about the new movie:

http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Star_Trek_%28film%29

I know it's not a major find or breakthrough, but hopefully that gives some insight to someone.
