[META] I just have to give respect to the filmmakers. I've been following this film since the first teaser and I had to join the forums just to express my happiness in the ability of the filmmakers to make a fantastic film. It certainly lived up to the hype in my eyes and it was well worth the money I spent to see it.
That's all.
Edit - tagged, excellent thread btw! It's the "praise you like we should" thread - MikeyJ

I do have to say I'm happy and thankful that the actors obviously did their best to deliver a performance worth more than what I'm sure they were paid. I hope it serves to give them some higher paying roles. I'm also glad Abrams, Reeves, and all the rest of the production team didn't give in to more conventional methods and mechanisms. We got a much better production because of that.
I suppose this ought to be a 'Thank You' card thread for the folks that made the film, and we might hope to have them read it.

Ditto Agree with the above posts, and I'll add:
I think the intense speculation and discussion from every angle on the nature of the monster, the sketches and revisions, and all the discussions, are proof that the makers of this film created a unique and interesting monster. No one came back and said "It's a mutated whale", or "It's godzilla with two more legs", etc.
It's weird, and in that weirdness it's a little more frightening. My mind could easily grasp a big dinosaur type thing, or even Cthulu since it's history is known, but this thing...what was it? I've never seen so many people leave a movie and still not be able to tell you the same story about what they saw. Eventually we'll all have it pieced together, but so far it's mostly grasping. Though it was ugly and bizarre, I think they did a good job in the concept stages. What's more, just think how much more they still can give us about it if they do decide to have a sequel. Maybe a sequel would give us a whole section on it's natural habitat, whether undersea or outerspace, and wouldn't that have lots of opportunity for cgi and the imagination, perhaps with a bigger budget to deliver eye-candy.

i felt that i had lived through the event and that the people who died (marlena, hud etc.), had really died. the events that took place felt so surreal. and its amazing, eeverything from the cam jamming at the bombing under the bridge to how fast marlena died was so so real.
jj has succeeded with Cloverfield. everyone of the crew did.

I must say that I rarely ever go to the movies, but when I was walking out of the theater Sunday night after seeing this, I actually thought to myself, "That movie was worth paying to see".

25 million dollars of a budget, and you make more than twice back during opening day, that is an achievement
