OK - my theory. The satellite was a ruse by the TAG company to give them an excuse to search for more nectar. They'd obviously found some in Asia, since the drink there is already huge and they found a supply near NYC. In order to get an excuse to log around for it, they have a "downed" satellite.

Looking at the pics, I wonder if this is a picture of the monster's mother (everyone's got a mother) killed by TAG or something. The company is sucking up their food supply to make slusho so baby monster is alone, hungry and scared and goes looking for food...and ends up in new york.

 		Sorry to have to finish in a second post.

Another reason I think the satellite thing was ruse is that the news about the satellite falling is in December and Rob and Beth go to Coney Island on April 27th. (By Jan 3rd, they are using a different satellite to track the pieces of the Chimp sat).

Unless this is the tracking satellite, but I doubt it.
