All this talk of "baby + mother" isn't totally substantiated, in my opinion.

Matt Reeves and the guy who designed the monster came up with the idea that it was newborn and going through separation anxiety, but that doesn't imply a mother. That implies that it has just been broken out of something, maybe hibernation, and is really... well... grumpy.

I mean, think about it: if you were all wrapped up in a womb (like a baby) and then you were broken out of it into the cold world, wouldn't you be a little freakish? Especially when things start shooting at you?

They very well could have meant there is a mother lurking around somewhere, but frankly it just seems like a metaphor for why the creature is so angry.

maybe tagruato killed the momma some how
i know with ARGs you have to look into everything
and in the manga there was a picture of a pregnant woman
so maybe thats a hint that the Momma Grumpy Pants was pregnant when they found her and she gave birth and tagruato killed her without knowing about the baby

i know im pushing it
but the more i think about it the more it makes sence to me
