[SPEC/QUESTION] Cloverfield based on Fall Out Boy Album?

Quoted from Official Fall Out Boy website. Pete Wentz's journal says...

Quote:
while most people are busy guarding their credibility like a kid with a bowl of cereal, their creativity just getting soggy as hell- we went to cloverfield.

after getting past the shakiness of the camera, i have to say that the monster(s) in this movie are pretty insane looking. its crazy to live inside someone else's imagination.

Drew Goddard, who we're a big fan of, from buffy the vampire slayer and lost wrote this movie and based much of it on infinity on high- which i didn't learn until after i'd seen the movie. now in retrospect he pointed to some of the lines specifically, mostly on "the takeover". its interesting to see someone else's interpretation of your songs. anyway, if you get a chance check out the movie (and keey your eyes open at the end).

until soon or whenever...

What do you think???

Unless they repeat "something terrible" in the lyrics of the song it's probably a coincidence.

I don't really care enough to look into this member of Fall Out Boy or anything about his record, but either he's being sarcastic (which kinda fails) or he's an idiot.

Because he's a stranger, I might as well give him the benefit of the doubt.

Except, he said (if you copied and pasted, and didn't transcribe) "keey your eyes open", and it's the internet, so maybe we should blow him up, or something.

How mature.

Here's the lyrics to "The Takeover, The Break's Over", which is the song I assume he's referring to. I don't really get it. I'm assuming it's a joke.

Quote:
Fall Out Boy - "the Take Over, The Breaks Over" Lyrics

Baby, seasons change but people don't
And i will be waiting in the back of the room
I'm boring to overcompensate for
Headlines and flash flash flash photograpy
Don't pretend you ever forgot about me
Don't pretend you ever forgot about me

Wouldn't you rather be a widow than a divorcee?
Smile your way through fashion magazines
Widow or divorcee?
Don't pretend
Don't pretend

We don't fight fair

Say your head could be a prison
Then these are just conjugal visits
People feel the sickness still
This doesn't mean a thing anymore

Don't pretend you ever forgot about me
Don't pretend you ever forgot about me

Wouldn't you rather be a widow than a divorcee?
Smile your way through fashion magazines
Widow or a divorcee
Don't pretend
Don't pretend

We do it in the dark
With smiles on our faces
We're trapped and well concealed
In secret places

We do it in the dark
With smiles on our faces
We're trapped and well concealed
In secret places

We don't fight fair
We don't fight fair
We don't fight fair
We don't fight fair
We don't fight fair

We do it in the dark
With smiles on our faces
We're trapped and well concealed
In secret places

We do it in the dark
With smiles on our faces
We're trapped and well concealed
In secret places

We don't fight fair
Fair

Smiles on our faces
Words often we'll conceal
In secret places

Don't pretend you ever forgot about me
Don't pretend you ever forgot about me
We don't fight fair

Hey just because you like different music isn't the rest of the forums problem.

He did say he pointed to SOME of the lines, but SPECIFICALLY "the takeover"

I see how this might possibly be a little of the inspiration for Beth and Rob's relationship. Jason talks to Rob about how he is out of Beth's league, and (unless I'm totally reading this wrong) there seems to be a similar theme in this song. I don't, however, see any familiar lines (Unless the stuff about a back room is one of them. Wasn't there some talk of back rooms during the party scene in Clove?)

I would assume that it's like if I said:

"Hey, did you go see 27 Dresses? Yeah, they writers were huge fans of my bands last record, and they made that movie about it. Kind of like Tommy, but more literal. To see how right I am, check out my Myspace and google us!"

Not that Fall Out Boy really needs exposure, right? Especially to people reading their blog. But it's the same situation. A silly, methinks. Nothing to get worked up about.

EDIT : It looks like he saw the splash, though! Funny.

Fall Out Boy is an idiot if they think they inspired the movie. Those lyrics aren't jack shit like the movie. We do it in the dark? Wtf?

I don't see it.

Next thing you know Blue Oyster Cult will be claiming JJ used one of their songs as inspiration. Guess which one?

Joan Crawford has Risen from the Grave?

It would explain a lot.

Fuck me. If this is true then I hate Cloverfield. Fuck me. God dammit. I'll force myself to hate the movie. And I loved this movie.
