I'd like to see the interview if you can find it, but really it's not that important. I think I might even have read the same one. Is it when Reeves tells the interviewer to watch the skies at the end, and the interviewer asks him if it's for the crashing object?

You also got to think that most people are not going to read those sorts of interviews. Those are for fanboys. Ask the average person if Han shot first, or if Deckard is a replicant, and they'll probably just stare at you. Those are relatively minor details (alright, so maybe Deckard being a replicant isn't anywhere near minor). I just think the crew might have played off this separation between fanboys and regular audiences far more than anything else I can think of, in order to create two distinct viewing experiences.

Example: Try going back and watching Blade Runner knowing Deckard's a replicant if you didn't know before. It changes your experience.

Also, I appreciate everybody's responses, but please keep in mind I didn't start the thread to discuss the monster's background. I'm more focused on the actual writing/production/marketing of the film.

The one and only frustrating thing I have found here lately are those new to the experience bashing those for playing the game how they like. An example is what you said "they're dead, who cares if there was a nuke involved?". Well that is just it, you see those of us who followed the game care and this is where the two audiences clash.

So you know, Angstfild, I really didn't mean to insult anyone in my post. I should probably go back and edit that now before more people get pissed. What I meant was that I did not want the thread to wander off in a different direction and become an argument over varying details. Of course it alters the Cloverfield universe if Manhattan was nuked. I'm not arguing that, nor calling anyone an idiot for discussing the situation. There's no need to get defensive over my comment as I'm not bashing anyone's point of view.
Honestly, I might have misled everyone a bit by downplaying my pre-release interest. I would regularly check the despoiler site to chart the story's development. When everything comes to a close, I will be really excited as then I'll be able to sit down and figure everything out. What really turns me off from these games in general (I blamed my lack of involvement on time, but that's not entirely true) is a lot of the other players, and I do understand these are multiplayer games. I've read enough complaints on this forum concerning the members of other sites to know I'm not alone in this. People get offensive/defensive over submissions, there's a whole lot of b.s. you have to wade through to get a solid idea from a thread, and there's a lot of selfishness and more than enough inferiority complexes to go around. In essence, too many Comic Book Guys to make this comic book lover stay in the store.

The only part I don't agree with in your post is this:

Quote:
As V.P. of marketing for the company responsible for the destruction of Manhattan, he almost surely knows what's going on as soon as everyone in the movie realizes that it's not just a terrorist attack or earthquake. It would have been his duty to help cover-up the mess of the refinery and sugarcoat Slusho for America. Didn't any of you think it strange that every time any other character starts asking "What's going on?" or "What is that thing?" he either tells them to stay quiet or completely ignores them? Or why the quote in the movie from a friend telling him "I guess you should have left town sooner?" is one of the only pieces of real dialogue in the trailer (even in the rest of the movie, though there are definitely funny bits of dialogue, this one stands out for being funny and foreshadowing MGP's romp)? I briefly looked at the Myspace page for Rob, and in his blog he talks about how the promotion is kind of sudden and how he didn't think he'd have to move to Japan. It's also strange that he's ditching town so soon, and he's supposed to leave the day right after the incident occurs. It seems that he knew at least that something was going to happen and wanted to get the hell out of Dodge.

The whole reason Rob was leaving was because he just got the job working for Slusho. He would have no idea what was going on because he had not started working for them yet (plus, he's a VP for marketing, that's hardly a job where they let you in on the company's dirty little secrets). It's pretty clear throughout the whole movie that he's confused about what's going on and why it's happening. Had Rob known about the monster beforehand, do you think he would have let all his friends stay in Manhattan?
