 Curtain

The metaphorical line that separates the Puppetmaster(s) from their audience (e.g. the players, or us). Behind the curtain is where the Puppetmaster(s) pull(s) his/her/their strings, working to make the game run smoothly

The line between "real" life (the puppetmasters pull the strings) and the alternate reality (there are no puppet masters) of the game world.

Also, sometimes, the idea that puppetmasters' identities are hidden and that they eschew direct communication with players during the course of the game.

(keep in mind that a puppetmaster can do pretty much anything he/she wants.
Breaking rules about what people think they should be or do is only one of them. Us (the player) not knowing what the puppetmaster is keeping or breaking is also behind 'the curtain')

For those of you TV gurus, this is the ARG version of "The Fourth Wall."
