The way the movie is set up, you only know as much as the "crew" the movie follows. It's meant to be confusing and chaotic, just like someone would really feel in an unknown situation.

Marlenes death was on camera and as graphic as possible in a PG-13 movie. She is dragged behind a curtain without a shot cut (so it isnt someone else) and she swells to 3x her size, explodes in a splatter of blood, leaving behind a head and some chunks stuck to her spine, then falls in nearly two pieces. The two techs with her appeared to be unarmed, and until we invent the Harlequin's Kiss we don't have any hand portable weapons that will do that to anyone so quickly, and safe to use when your buddy is holding the other end...

So she done blowed up. Eww. Shocked
