Ive seen it twice, liked it alot the first time, LOVED it after the second time. knowing when the creature would show himself i got much better view and feel for the creature. And the movies so fast paced its easy to forget things. The second time i saw it there were things i didnt catch the first time. Its definitely a theatre movie though. Its gonna lose so much on the small screen. Oh well, ill still get the DVD when it comes out. My boys got a 62in HD or something like that. itll probably still be pretty phat, But nowhere near as good as seeing it in the theater in my opinion
Totally with you itwill lose a lot as soon as the dvd hits...but i got a 1200watt surround sound with a 54 inch HD...so its good enough

And something funny that happened. I was the only one, of my friends and all the people who where at the theater, that knew there was nothing else after the last Coney Island scene. The lights hadn't yet come on but the credits were rolling. Me & my girlfriend stood up & people were yelling "SIT DOWN! THE MOVIE'S NOT OVER YET!" To which I answered back, "YES IT IS, THAT'S ALL, NOTHING MORE, THE MOVIE'S OVER, I'M GONE!"
So, you missed the bit after the credits then?

Yeah, I think that is why everyone wanted you to stay.

Actually, I knew about that already. And NO ONE KNEW once I started talking about it outside the theater. And believe me, no one would care except the friends I went to see it with. They just thought the movie wasn't over cause they hadn't turned on the lights.

I found that was the general 'outcry' of the movie; the ending. people have this want to have a fulfilled/happy ending... My sister's like that- The entire movie could have been amazing, but if the hero didn't survive in the end- it sucked.
And thats the reason every movie ends up being crap...people want to see certain things...and without those things...the movie "sucks"...i loved the ending because thats the way it had to end...its a POV movie...there was no room for a happy ending or anything
I mean, people don't realize that this was from the POV of a regular nobody... Regular people who don't get an explanation of what is happening or why it's happening- they just have to deal w/ it... In that sense, it IS like 9/11... When those planes hit, the people that were caught in the thick of it didn't get a thorough explanation of what was happening, they just knew that they needed to escape the area.
Maybe in the sequel, Matt Reeves or whoever can just fulfill that 'outcry' by making it from a soldiers POV, which could give them an 'explanation' by being in a room w/ a bunch of 'know-it-all' scientists and generals or something.
I agree 100%. People in general can't seem to wrap there heads around anything that is different from what they expect. The rules of a Hollywood ending dictate that the heros live. Anything else, even if it makes more sense within the context of the movie, and people start screaming about how crappy it was. The only way people start liking something different is when a powerful opinion leader or two start telling them what to like.

I think it was better if all of the characters had died. Also, the military scene where they were fighting the monster was f ing incredible. The feeling that you were trapped between the U.S. Military and the monster made it all the better.

Cloverfield is amazing, and the backlash it seems to have developed among some people is mindboggling to me (letting their curiosity override the thrill itself) but the only thing that disappoints me is that this movie will just not be the same on DVD.
This film was a freaking experience in theaters, one I won't soon forget.

This may be a bit of ageism, but I've noticed that the people who seem to hate the movie the most are older folks. Here is a conversation I had with my GF's mom the other night:
Me: "So we're going to go see Cloverfield."
Hag: "Oh my! I heard *creak* that was all shot from a *crack* hand held thingy!"
Me: "..."
Rust Monster: "You'll get carsick! *groooannn* Take these motion sickness tablets (reaches into pillow-sized bag and nearsightedly hands me one of her dog's heart-worm pills, and a couple of those small googly eyes that people stick on craft projects).
Me: "Thanks Wrinkles."
Wrinkles: "What?"

Just wanted to add that I whole-heartedly agree with the comments about getting the full experience in the theaters. This is one of the few movies where I was actually aware of the surround sound system, and I even turned my head every once in a while to look up at the speakers, lol.
