Leaving for College! Well, today I'm leaving home and heading for Occidental College, a small, liberal arts college in Los Angeles. I'm currently going into Film Production and Analysis, part of the Art History and Visual Arts major, but that could easily change.
This is their website, if you're curious: http://www.oxy.edu
Anyway, I'll be offline for a few days, and then I'll be back.
Wish me luck!
PS: Sark, Please check your PMs, thanks.

Oh man, I LOVE collage! It's got so many possibilities. All kinds of different things, an unexpected final product. Sometimes working together with others towards a common goal. Exploring boundaries...
Man, I love collage.
Oh.
College ? That rocked too.

(Hint: Don't forget to have a great time while you're there. Make the best friends you'll ever have and do the things that make your life memorable, like I did.)

oooh oooh!
Financial advice: Sell your plasma twice a week. It brought me about $25/wk which is PLENTY to party on and I used the time to read and study while donating.
Not kidding.

Woo! College! Good luck 42! I don't move out until September 21st. Even then, I'll just be 45 minutes away from home. I need to start gathering the rest of my dorm stuff...
P.S. I did check my PM, it sends an alert to my e-mail.

Or better yet, do as I did...
Call home and ask mom for money. Then later call home and ask dad for money.

Cheers to one of the brightest kids I know. Enjoy your times in the interesting, informative classes, but don't neglect the interesting, informative burlesque frat parties either.

College bound Been there done that, twice, got the diplomas to prove it.
1.) Don't believe everything the intake advisor tells you.
2.) Not all colleges are the same, some people thrive in classes of seven hundred, others need the smaller versions. Not all course schedules are the same, some do well slightly less than a full time load while others thrive on taking as many courses as the college will allow in a semester. Find the load that works for you and don't try to rush to graduate. If you can't do your best, it will show up on the transcript at the end of the semester. One Failing grade can just about wipe out 3 years of hard work to make A's, and trust me, no matter how good the rest of your scores, you will never be near the pristine level you had before.
3.) Make friends by hanging in the lobby of your dorm and hanging out with the Dorm studen government.
4.) Study at least 2 hours for every hour in the classroom (excuding Labs).
5.) Be prepared for the burnout that comes after finals week, don't make my mistake and sign up for the summer statistics course that starts the monday immediately following the last final exam. The first two weeks I had problems looking at the textbook, and don't even talk about opening it. By the time I was ready to study again, we were through 10 chapters (yes, a chapter a day...) .
6.) If you are having problems locating information (even for non-study related things) talk to the reference librarian at the local library, if they can't find the information, or give you a place to start searching, no one can. Remember the Dewey Decimal system and keep it wholely. (I call the library for local telephone numbers before I resort to 411)
7.) Real life work experience counts. If you have held employment that can substitute for lab work, go talk to the Dean of your college. They will ask you a few questions about it and may sign off on you having sufficient experience to not have to take the course (I took an organic lab at a junior college in another state, and was able to substitue it for a higher level organic laboratory, an dknew a guy who worked in a lab for five years doing HPCL work and was able to substitute for both the lecture and a lab.)
8.) Have fun. You may not be living at home, but you are still in an environment where there are others looking out for you. Make the most of it because once you graduate and take the long walk to get your diploma, you will be the sole person responsible for yourself.

My room smells a bit funky, but I love it here. And my computer and internet was the first thing up and running.
