but then i remember T3 Rise of the Machines and forgot that I ever supported sequels. On a different note though, look at Cloverfield. It's probably the most original movie that's come out in years, so who's to say Reeves couldn't recreate glory?

You can't really recreate originality. The idea of Cloverfield could never really be original again. Not to say there couldn't be a good sequel, but I would say the odds are stacked against it. T2 was special, nothing can be compared, not even work by Abrams. Smile

Well that's just not fair. But either way you can't please everybody and you can't just create a new best and most original movie ever on every try so what else are they supposed to do?

I don't really have a problem with sequels. It's pretty much a given which ones are going to be good and which ones are going to be bad (in most cases.) I think there's potential here and that's all there really ever is in the beginning isn't there?

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate all sequels, after all what would Star Wars have been without Empire? But I just don't see anything good coming from a Cloverfield sequel. Maybe I will be pleasantly surprised but I somehow doubt it.

I'm choosing not to have any opinion about whether or not I think a sequel should be made. I think it's obvious that a sequel *will* be made, and, when one is, I will go see it. I do have faith in Abrams and his crew, so anything's possible, and my opinion really doesn't make much difference to the actual outcome.
For me, this is just a wait-and-see moment.

I'll just stay tuned to the ARG and see where it goes.

Gays, come on! We knew there would be a sequel. There is no such thing these days as a movie of any larger caliber that makes that much profit and generates more interest than Cloverfield that does not have a sequel.

I am trying to think of cool sequels and I am having a hard time.

But, at least the ARG will ramp up again, maybe, sometime.

EDIT: Oops, I meant "GUYS". My bad.

Why would the sequel be terrible? Assuming Reeves and Abrams remain as director and producer, respectively, there's no reason for a sequel to be bad.

If they made Cloverfield and it's awesome, why couldn't they make Cloverfield 2 and make it awsome?

Also, who knows if it will be called Cloverfield 2? Maybe it will be "Multiple sightings of case designate: ________" fill in the blank...

I personally want more... I want to know what this thing is, I want to know where it came from, I want to know why and how it evolved, I want to know what it eats, I want to know how old it is, I want to know all of this stuff.

i agree with you, but doing the civilian handicam POV thing again won't work. it worked the first time because it was fresh, but if they try it again theres no way it could possibly be interesting.

There is no final fate. Clover is a badass motherfucker who doesn't give a fuck.

He has some growing up to do before he goes off and dies!

OMFG BIG MOVIE EXECUTIVES ARE TALKING?!?! ABOUT CLOVERFIELD, OF ALL THINGS?? No. Way. Rolling Eyes

I really, really don't want to be an asshat about this, but I felt like I wasted my time reading that article. It was short and stuffed with wisps of promises. Although I would definitely go see a sequel and pay attention to the ARG/ARE, I think this is making a big fuss over essentially nothing.

But that's what we do best here in the Cloverfield forum. Wink

It's the first official piece saying Paramount wants Cloverfield 2. As obvious as it was, it wasn't a sure thing.

I really don't give a damn which direction the sequel comes from... as long as there IS one!

Let's go Clovey!!!

There have been very few good sequels, I'm sure that is what you guys are worried about.

However, every year or two we get a good sequel. Well, sequels in the past year or two have sucked, so maybe Cloverfield 2 will be the good one.

Be positive guys. You knew that a Cloverfield 2 would happen, so just hope for the best. If your negative about it, then you're pretty pathetic. You shouldn't think it's going to be terrible when you haven't even heard anything about it.

EDIT: I know this post sounds incredibly stupid. I'm tired.

The first one wasn't an action movie? Or did the monster, burning/crashing buildng, fending for your life aspect make it a comedy?
