Interesting Ciphers / Methods of Encoding Information

A lot of times, players seem to encounter new forms of ciphers and codes through the process of playing games or researching the history of the cryptological field. Well, a recent post at BoingBoing got me thinking, it might be nice to have a collection of cool methods of encoding information you stumble across in the news / research journals / your neighbor's "No Gurlz Allowed" treehouse club.

So, to start:

BoingBoing article on How to Cheat
The article links to a series of YouTube videos that describe methods of cheating on tests including scanning the label off a Coke bottle and replacing the nutritional information with information, as well as a hilarious Japanese spot about putting information inside your pencil case. The article additionally mentions using binary encoding to sew information on clothing, using resistor color codes on pencils, or using light-based semaphores using reflections from their watch faces.

OMG....I don't know whether I'm impressed or just in shock. I like the coke bottle one too.

Then again, my question is this: i the same amount of time it takes you to learn and then demonstrate how to cheat you could've just learned the shit to begin with!

The point, I think, is analyzing the weaknesses of a system. Just like I'll sometimes theorize about "how to commit the perfect murder" without any intent of hurting anybody (sadly, my strategy taking advantage of air embolisms was disproved by one of my more science-minded friends), I sometimes like to think about how to cheat.

As for people actually doing it? I dunno...maybe it's a fear that nerves will destroy the careful memorization?
