[PRESS] Cloverfield Mad Libs: Direct your own monster movie
just grab a camcorder and fill in the blanks

Haha, you can be the next JJ Abrams or Matt Reeves.

With the monster success of Cloverfield, terrible pun intended, expect to see a rash of direct-to-DVD knock-offs in the coming months. To save aspiring filmmakers the trouble of coming up with such a complex plot -- monster attacks New York is on par with the Great Expectations -- The Ampersand has come up with the Cloverfield mad lib. All you need is a camcorder (but don't you dare use a tripod). Fill in the blanks on the plot below, then print it off for a ready-made script:

UNTITLED MONSTER PROJECT by _____________________ (Your name)


Dozens of _____ (Adjective), well-dressed, _____ (Adjective) professionals _____ (Verb) in a loft in downtown _____ (City). They have gathered for a farewell party for _____ (Name 1), who is leaving for a _____ (Noun) in _____ (Country). The _____ (Noun) filming the party, _____ (Name 2), goes around the room gathering goodbye messages. The audience is introduced to _____ (Name 3), _____ (Name 4), and _____ (Name 5), who also happens to be (Name 1)'s ex Suddenly, the room goes dark and there is a _____ (Adjective) explosion. The guests all rush to the _____ (Room) to see what happened.

"Oh no, a _____ (Noun - This is where you pick the monster) is attacking _____ (City)!" screams _____ (Name 6) right before they are _____ (Verb) by the thing. The guests _____ (Verb) out into the street as the monster knocks over a _____ (Noun), which falls on _____ (Name 3).

The survivors take shelter in a _____ (Place of business) where they meet _____ (Name 7), a retired _____ (Occupation), who, fortunately, is armed with a _____ (Noun). That night, while _____(Name 7) is sleeping, _____ (Name 4) steals the _____ (Noun) and runs outside, confident he can escape. The following morning, when the remaining survivors step outside, the find _____ (Name 4)'s _____ (Body Part).

"Serves 'em right," says _____ (Name 7). Suddenly, the _____ (Monster) which is attacking the city appears and _____ (Verb) all over _____ (Name 7), leaving them gravely injured. Carrying their injured friend, they head for the abandoned Monorail tracks, where they are _____ (Adjective) they'll be able to hide from the creature.

As the group walks across the tracks, trying not to fall, a _____ (Noun) _____ (Verb) and _____ (Verb) _____ (Name 7).

"_____ (_____)," screams _____ (Name 1).

Sensing the Monorail tracks were a bad idea, they get off at the next station and head back towards the street. As they _____ (Verb) _____ (Adverb) trying not to draw attention to themselves, a convoy of _____ (Occupation, plural) comes _____ (Verb) down the sidewalk. They have been _____ (Verb) the _____ (Monster) but are losing.

"Get the _____ (Verb) out of here if you know what's good for you," screams the _____ (Occupation) before the _____ (Monster) comes out of nowhere and eats him.

The other _____ (Occupation, plural) tells the three remaining survivors that the if they make it to the _____ (Noun) they should be safe.

"But that's on the other side of the city!" groans _____ (Name 2).

As the trio runs down the street, hiding behind _____ (Noun), explosions echoing off in the distance, _____ (Name 2) gets their leg caught in a _____ (Noun).

"I can't go on!" _____ (Name 2) says.

Just then, the _____ (Monster) jumps out from behind a _____ (Noun) and _____ (Verb) _____ (Name 2).

"Oh ____ (Expletive)," says _____ (Name 5). "They ate ______ (Name 2)"

____ (Name 1) picks up the fallen camcorder, vowing to continue to film, but they both know there is nowhere left to run. As the _____ (Monster) bears down on them, they _____ (Verb) each other one last time and close their eyes. Just then, Mothra and Godzilla jump from behind a skyscraper and _____ (Verb) the _____ (Monster). Then Godzilla eats _____ (Name 1) and _____ (Name 2).

My contribution to your Parodyfield

I did a little work on the outline (it's nowhere near a script) in M$ Word. The attached file should help a lot if you know how to do find/replace effectively.
