As far as the "do not Trust Jason Thomas" thing I just want to point out the we have also been told by Jason Thomas repeatedly not to trust 1 in 50. And as far as that goes I am not sure any of us trust PO. At this point I am not sure I trust Martin and Rebecca.

So.. Where does that leave us? Right where we started. Trying to solve the puzzles before everyone else so that we might be able to determine who the "good Guys" are.

As far as solving the clues... Does anyone know what a score of 1-5 or 2-7 be in tennis? I know that scoring in tennis uses different numbers than the actual score but not being a player myself I dont know the translation.

Forgive me if I'm re-treading, but has anyone done any equations with this? Meaning (1, 5) and (2,7) being points in a line slope or other form of linear equation? I know that that slope is 2, but that's not the answer we're looking for (I tried). Anybody remember high school algebra and geometry? I had horrible math teachers so I've blocked it all out. Confused

The points would define a line in a X-Y coordinate system. However the answer is not "a Line" I just tried it.

The line in question is y=2x+3, but I've burned out my attempts for the day, so I can't try it. There's a number of different ways to write it, too. That's probably the simplest form (that being slope-intercept), but "standard" form would be y-5=2(x-1) or y-7=2(x-2) if anyone wants to try any of those.

fishjp> I agree. Here's what I was jotting down as you were posting...

Jason and 1in50 both say the other is the bad guy. But the 1in50 contact came from Jason in the first palce (via "R13"). Jason is the one who has been feeding us help, info. 1in50 has been using PO's computers to break the files and they hacked the site. They do have a vested interest in not looking like kidnappers, but they DO have Martin's phone (or the vid off of it...) I don't think either know where M&R are.

Right now, I don't feel like I'm giving up much info to these guys. 1in50 is solving as fast as we are, (or say they are), and Jason can see that the files are being authorised. BTW, I don't think 1in50 is actually beating us or the files would already be authorised... Right? Gerry throwing us some info would make me trust him more, even "we tried this and it didn't work." The only people I KNOW are the good guys are all of you.

On the other hand, do we care who the good guys are at this point? Both know about the PO site, so ultimately we're trying to break the files for us. Once we accomplish that, some of these questions will be resolved by what actions each takes at that point. I'd be willing to tell them most of our speculations if it bought us anything.

Algebra?? Wha that? I'm a word guy so everything looks like a crossword puzzle clue to me. But don't you need two coordinates to solve a slope, so maybe 1,2 to 5,7?

Can't do it. Love, 15, 30, 40, game. (i.e. 4 points to the game)

I trust Martin and Rebecca. What reason have we NOT to? Jason, PO and 1in50 certainly gave us reasons for distrust, but I still think M&R are innocent.

BTW-- I also tried y-3=2x. No go for that either.
I finally decided to make a new login-- username Pesca. I'm a fish lover Smile

Alright, the previous equation I worked out was using (1,5) and (2,7) as points. If we try arranging the numbers as (1,2) and (5,7), the equation comes out as y=(5/4) * x + (3/4) or y=1.25 * x + .75 using decimal values. They're not nearly such nice numbers, but...

Can you solve for m as in:

???

Is this legal?

"4y = 5x + 3" is MUCH nicer... Very Happy

Haven't tried it; all my signons are locked out. Don't have time to create one right now.

Ouch! Score one for Nighthawk, I didn't even think of doing that. Not much good for graphing in that format, but yes, much nicer. ...Pity it didn't work...

Dangit... Curse my having graduated high school two years ago! I used to be such a calc nerd and now I've forgotten it all. XD

(And completely off-topic, but Vantage Point is such a deliciously conspiracy-tastic movie I recommend it to all ARG players. It's where I've been all night. XD)
