So the question is: Do we wait and meet back in Dec when this starts again or do we work on getting our names off the list before then. In short is the game over (with a possible sequel in dec) or does it continue now? Becs did say she was updating the blog tonight so...

No clue BUT I've just OOG emailed the PM and congratulated him on the project (The ARG not Ophiuchus) - Told him to ignore it if the game wasn't over...

Also said she couldn't get ahold of Martin...

ETA (sorry) Thanks Leyton. This was my first, and though I'm still getting my feet under me I had a lot of fun. Thanks to all yof ou for your patience and encouragement. Not to mention not totally flaming me even though it was occasionally in order.

well if this is the end I just want to say this was the very first ARG I have followed since day one. If it continues I will be thrilled and if it has a sequel in DEC I will be there for certain. this is a lot of fun.

Aw crap. It just HAD to be the night I ended up completely busy. Ah well, I just hope it's not over yet.
Anyway, congrats to the PM on a good job. You can count me in for any other games you make, after all this one was enjoyable.

Endings are usually the worst part......but have to say that at least the PM tried to finish it and not just said 'the end' like alot of them seem to be doing lately. I don't think there will be anything happening in Dec..(definitely could be wrong) because Gerry said: The database or something was deleted before the Copying Files to Backup and Respawning in 269 days appeared. Meaning (?) that if it were to respawn, there would be no files.......maybe.....

I like that it's kind of left out there, nice twist to make ppl wonder. I'll change my name to Wonderwoman if this comes back Smile

Great working with everyone.

I guess this is the official final part of the game... Last blog entry from Becs.

It's over…for now!March 10, 2008

Okay I'm going to keep this brief because I some sleep. The last month has been the climax of what can only usually be seen in nightmares and I need rest. So do you! You've done brilliantly, and I can't thank you enough.

I'll spare the technical detail, but basically the more you uploaded and authorised files on the site the more we were able to gain access. Firstly deleting all participants from the system, then eventually removing the database and website. The problem however, is that the server connected to a backup server shortly before it was due to lock itself down (and we deleted everything) and somehow it inserted all of your names and details as new participants. The site's going to hibernate for 269 days, then who knows…

Don't worry, this time we're in a better position. I'm due to return the huge favor you guys have given me. I'll be in contact near the time.

Like I said, right now I need to return to reality. Take a couple of weeks off work to spend with Martin. That reminds me actually. I need to let him know the good news. I'll call him tonight. He's due back in the UK soon.

Thanks again! Until next time…

Take Care

Becs x

I must say, I'm impressed at the amount of work that went in to this... they did some nice .NET and Flash work, and their graphics stuff was pretty above par. This was not a "let's slap a page together" like (*cough!* The Gate Reaction *cough!*) some other ARGs...

I hate to ask, but did this ARG have a point beyond being a storytelling experience? Because of its complexity, I assumed they would be selling something or be sponsored by somebody, because all this professional work costs something to someone. Or was this like a college project (which would explain the rather young newscasters in the video)?

I'm thinking it was more possibly that...

The PM (Well person who created LMF at least) I believe is a guy called Marc McGinley who was a graphics design student or something of that nature @ Brunel University... Which is where I attend.

He's now a designer for a company called "Dreamspace" who I believe are web developers. So it could either have been a grassroots project by him or something he was helping some people out w/ Over @ Brunel.

I just want to say that Marc has replied to my email [confirmation it has in fact ended officially] - And it is who I thought it was.

Now... He, in the email has asked my opinion on having a PM chat @ some stage tomorrow night + He wanted me to pass my thanks on to everyone for playing so well!

I suggested if we have a chat it be around 9pm GMT - If anyone has any better suggestions feel free to say so. I only suggested 9pm GMT because he has a dissertation due on Thursday which needs writing up and for those of you who're not sure what it is, it's basically a "Special project" you get in your final yr @ Uni which is roughly around 10,000 words... So he's got a busy schedule ahead of him.

I told him if he didn't mind I'd post the comm's in here in a bit.

A PM after-chat is totally cool. It's also a bold and brave move on his part to offer/do it.

I wanted to add my applause and appreciation to everyone's playing, this was VERY enjoyable as my first "beginning to end" ARG. Thank you all for participating / making it be a totally awesome experience!

And very good job, PM!

Alright well I've been asked to do a seperate thread for the PM chat idea so I'm gonna go and do that but this was basically the last 2 emails sent between the PM and myself.

Quote:
Marc,

Damn I was close to coming OOG with the email from this address prior > to this one but glad I didn't and yeah it was really weird when I did the usual 'whois' for lmf.co.uk and saw the name then googled it. - Was just hoping something would occur @ Brunel!

As for the PM chat... Honestly? I don't know how those things usually > go (maybe you do?) but I could definitely put forward the suggestion of it for tomorrow night say 9pm GMT? (If that's not too late for you?) To those who were involved over @ Unfiction?

Also if you don't mind I mentioned emailing you OOG tonight and > wondered if you'd mind me including this email? If not it's fine.

Give my thanks and hellos to the girl behind "Becca" and the guy behind "Martin" if of course that wasn't you...? Btw HOW MANY People were actually involved in the project? - And was this for your dissertation?

Get back at me!

-Dean/Leyton.

-------

Hi Dean,

PM chats usually happen in a seperate irc room. I guess once the time's been sorted you could create a seperate thread on the forum with the details. I'll also mention it to SpaceBass to try to get it advertised at short notice. Any time's fine for me.

I don't mind you talking about our email correspondance - it's fine Smile Could you perhaps pass on that if anyone wants to contact me about the project specifically, they can use Jason's email address (don't really want to get spammed on my mail email account from the forums).

Just me working on the project unfortunately, for my multimedia technology and design major project. I'm going to put up a credits page tomorrow with some more details about who was involved e.g. actors.

Once again, thanks to everyone for playing. I'm sure there will be many answers tomorrow Smile

Marc

Fine by me. 9 is OK, compared to all of the other late night stuff that went on.
Good to see we're having a PM chat anyway. Now we can bug him about lots of stuff Wink
