I think for the most part the ARE/ARG or whatever if finished. All thats up to us to wait.

I remember being the person at school or work that everyone asked about the movie..because I followed it from the beginning thanks to my step-bro. I was even requested to make a little Q+A thing in the school newspaper. It made me feel special for once!

This quote is from this link:

http://media.www.anchorweb.org/media/storage/paper1224/news/2008/02/12/ArtsEntertainment/Cloverfield.Of.Dreams-3204694.shtml

Quote:
The potential audience of this film turned to the Internet to find out more, as many do for movies. Abrams used this to his advantage by launching a group of viral marketing websites in order to advertise the movie. In effect, he created an alternate world for it to inhabit. Websites such as slusho.jp, tagruato.jp, and tidowave.com created products, political climates, and heads of the scientific community which hinted at strange occurrences on the ocean floor. Through the tracking of these sites, a story emerged of a drilling company that found something sleeping in the depths of the water. People who discovered these websites went into the movie with a far richer story than others. Abrams used the Internet age to his advantage by using spoiler websites to spread the idea that this movie has its own world apart from what's on the screen.

The purpose is stated very well by this person from "Anchorweb" very pointedly and very accurately in my honest opinion. All of that has been accomplished. It's done.
