Cloverfield's Legacy
Cloverfield may not be alone when it returns to the big screen.....

Of course we've all heard about the planned cloverfield sequel, but when the big guy makes his triumphant return to the silver screen, he may not be alone. It seems he has ushered in a new generation of Giant Monster films. First, and perhaps the oldest news is The Host 2.

But the project that really has my attention is the (not so) triumphant return of Guilala, the awesome star of one of the worst monster movies ever made! I'm really not sure why they're remaking (or making a sequel to) Guilala's little abomination, but it was my faveorite movie when I was a kid, so, I'll at least keep an eye on it.

Dreamworks is apearantly putting together their own giant monster film, I don't know the title, and I have no links, but it'll certainly bring some new blood into the fandom.

It certainly seems as though Cloverfield has left it's mark on movies, and much like King Kong and Godzilla before it, it seems as though a new era of giant monster films has begun.

Cloverfield is not starting a new wave of monster movies.

Toho made a new Godzilla movie every year from 1999-2004, and have been trying to do a 3-D Godzilla movie for a while.
Daiei put out Gamera movies in 1995, 1996, 1999, and 2006.
The Host came out in 2006.
D-War came out in 2007.
King Kong (if you count it as a "giant monster film"--I don't, though) came out in 2005.

Hopefully, Cloverfield's success will at least make future monster movies try to be realistic and of higher quality.

Appreciate the info, though. Didn't know about the Guilala movie.

Oh, yeah, had forgotten 'bout sequel to D-War. The Host sequel (prequel?) should be out this year, if everything runs smoothly.

Where did you find out about "Sector 7"?

D-War got pretty bad reviews, even from people who like monster movies. I haven't seen it myself, because the director's last movie, Reptilian, was terrible (he's a Korean director, but did both movies with American actors).

I found the information here : link
It seems it's about a sea monster awaken by drilling workers ....

And yes the Host 2 is a prequel , the action takes place in 2003 during Cheonggyecheon restoration works . We don"t know if the creature will be the same "Gwoemul" than in "The Host" but if the information we have are correct there are several subteraneans monsters in "The Host 2" .

Personaly I liked D-war , but you have to know that I like giant monster movies a lot so I'm not objective . Laughing
