It would be cool if Cloverfield was the first Paramount movie on Blu-ray.

People I think they will also release it on regular DVD format. you don't have to worry about the HD formats if you don't have a player or a HDTV.

Besides, i think they sell players that play both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray

You are correct. However, buying one costs more than buying separate BR and HD players, ironic.

The movie will still be released on DVD, but for those of us with HDTVs and BR players it's kind of annoying. A BR player will upscale, but it's not the same as having a High-Def release.

If you don't care about BR or HD that's fine, but for us early adaptors it does kind of matter if movies we like will be released on the format we've chosen.

Big blow to HD players. Toshiba will no longer produce HD DVD players. Looks like Blu-ray won the war.

Cloverfield may yet end up on Blu-ray!!

Blu-Ray has one advantage: Bigger disc space. Possibly leads to more special content on the DVDs.

However, I hope they still release regular DVDs for us non-High Def folks.
