Nothing is too old to show up in Search, it's just a matter of setting a suitable number of results to show, a suitable group of keywords, and configuring the results to be easy enough to navigate (show as topics instead of posts if you have to search initially in a vague fashion). Old posts don't get dropped from the search index.
