Poorly informed "writer" for Paste Magazine.
Here is someone to troll {HUMOR} who must live under a rock

I searched the site for this guys name and the magazine name and got no results so if its trout, sorry. Heres a link I came across. Not sure where this guy gets his facts but he essentially states Cloverfield was little known, didnt break any box office records and he is surprised Paramount is doing a sequel. So in this slow period, lets troll him Twisted Evil .

I don't think that is a very appropriate thing to do.(i.e. gather up a mob to troll another person for stating their opinion.) That's just me though.

Cloverfield was little known Known only intimately with the net savvy and JJ Abrams freaks
didnt break any box office records I think it holds the dubious distinction of the top movie opening MLK holiday weekend. It is also the top movie of the year, all 38 days of it.
he is surprised Paramount is doing a sequel He should not surprised seeing how it's grossed over $100 Million worldwide; however those that knew what the movie was truly about saw it on opening weekend, and it has steadily dropped since then. This will probably mirror Serenity and have huge DVD sales, as long as Abrams and Reeves don't let Paramount double or triple dip us on DVD versions.

Thats wonderful, your a decent human being. But there is a difference between an opinion and stating fact as did this writer for a magazine that is dedicated to the arts (one of those being movies). He wrongly stated the movie was essentially a failure and that nobody heard of it. To say it was limited only too the online geekdom that followed it is wrong also. While that group spent way more time talking about it and analizing it, the movie was hardly a blip on the radar. The advertising, box office reciepts and the press it recieved more then prove that. So, I say he was wrong, not in opinon as you feel, but in fact. Now, would I really expect the village to gather up torches to go and get the monster who wrote the article? No. Do some people take things too litterally and will troll him? Yes. Did you take it too litterally in assuming that is the result I wanted? Yes. Its called a sense of humor. I assume mine is different then yours. Was the writer being sarcastic? Hard to tell, but he perhaps should have made that more clear.

If your intent with the original suggestion to "troll" the writer was humor, then you should tag your post or comment as [HUMOR] or pick a different icon instead of the evil grin.

Remember, online we cannot use body language or voice inflection to descern if you are being serious or joking.

Hugs!

Well, I know in my area, at least, there are maybe three theaters left that are running Cloverfield, and only with one or two times available.

IMO, Cloverfield had a big bang, and sort of faded away.

Cloverfield was the highest grossing film for the month of January of all time beating out Star Wars Special Editon in 1997. It's rare for records older than a decade to be broken, but this one was.

That's a record for the Paste journalist to look up.

Guys, i think he's being sarcastic. And doing a poor job at it.

Kinda like saying "The Oscars awarded a little movie called "Titanic." Big surprise."

I remember seeing that link at 1-18-08news. Thanks for bringing it to the forums, Richie!

The writer did seem to have a sarcastic tone, but what puzzles me is why he didn't make it more apparent in the article. Maybe in the future he won't use this style to avoid angry emails Laughing

What's Titanic? You mean the movie about the tugboat that got washed onto shore?

That was the first thing I thought when I read it. The writer has his tongue planted firmly in cheek.

Yeah, I got that he was laughing as he wrote it. I thought the sarcasm was directed at Paramount for making such an obvious move as creating a sequel or maybe that he had to report on it. The scorn was probably directed at Paramount for doing something so predictable. Perhaps he wishes that Paramount undertook riskier movies or tried to make art.

I straight up slammed that dude for his article, and about two hours later i got a reply from him giving me a different link to an actual review for the movie from that online magazine PASTE, and then like 2 minutes later i check in on 1-18-08news.com, and the guy who posted the link up there right below the words GET YOUR SKINNIN KNIVES OUT FELLAZ posts and tells me that i was too harsh and that there was an actual review of the movie giving it praise. Much thanks, lol. And no, im not butthurt or anything, i could care less cuz i love doin that typa stuff to people who have no clue, just wanna give a shoutout to the guy that posted that link. You rock.
