So, 14.8. Sweet. Much better than my puny 14.2, Wink .

This talk is making me tech-crazy. I'm gonna have to run down to the Source tomorrow, now.

Through last weekend Cloverfield was playing on just over 2,000 screens. I think it will hang around through this weekend (but on significantly less screens) since it's the Presidents Day holiday in the U.S. and most everyone (except me of course) is off on Monday with the thought being to give it one more holiday weekend to add to it's domestic gross.

The problem is there are some big releases this weekend, "Spiderwick Chronicles", "Jumper", "Definitely, Maybe", etc to compete against, so my feeling is after Monday its bye-bye until the DVD release.

FYI, Cloverfield has earned just under $76mil through last Sunday so we'll see if it will break the $80mil mark (which btw, I originally predicted, but I was being conservative, now it looks like it may just be out of reach).

Although 76m doesnt sound too impressive compared to most movie standards... thats still 3x what they spent making the movie... Idk how many movies can claim they made, at this point with worldwide sales, over 5x as much as they spent to produce it.

I figured I should say something on topic, lol.
I'm gonna have to agree with the majority, I doubt if it'll last much past the weekend. Although, I also have to agree that the relative profit made from the movie deserves to be acknowledged...for a movie to make as much as Cloverfield has relative to its production cost is just...well...really cool.

Yea, I think the movie that earned the most in comparison to what it cost might be Titanic... worldwide it made almost 9x as much as they spent (200m)

However, Cloverfield really doesnt need to make much in comparison to hit that 9x mark. If the international theaters can push this movie to 225m, then it will match Titanic in profit-to-cost.

Regardless what people say and what the end result ends up being, the fact is that it did well in the theatres no matter what anyone says.

For a monster movie other than godzilla it did exceptionally well...and itwas a damn good movie

Cloverfield will remain in theaters?

With cloverfield bringing in only a meager 3 to 4 mil last weekend, and less then $200k yesterday, how much longer do you think cloverfield will stay in theaters?

Im hoping it goes one more weekend for the push to hit $80m domestically.

On a similar note... Do you think they might release official images of the monster once Cloverfield leaves theaters? I bet thats what Hasbro is waiting for.

The newest trailer I've seen on TV actually shows the face..you know the part when the army guys run by when Hud is on the other side of the street...and they run into the Subway and the face flashes for a second..so they already have released at least a clue as to what it looks like if you havent seen the movie.

This has already been discussed, along with a nice HD clip of that scene provided by Yahoo.

ugh i ha to say it, but for some reason, MGP isnt gonna be a really great monster, like i dont think its gonna be as popular to america as godzilla is to japan, now dont get me wrong, i do love this movie and MGP but i dont think itll live up to what we were expecting, bcuz i think it wasnt an AMAZING monster that its supposed to be, im not a hate F.Y.I.
